James Bond Marathon On AMC TV In January
January 8 Sunday - 14 Saturday; including 'Dr. No' special

On Sunday, Jan. 8 the US cable channel AMC (American Movie Classics) will be showing the first big-screen 007 movie Dr. No twice. The first screening will be the regular broadcast version but the second showing immediately following it will be an "Enhanced Version" with accompanying trivia track.

Here is the added features from AMC's website:
Special editions of Backstory, our signature series that gives you the inside scoop on the making of a movie, to our exclusive Much More Movie, which showcases on-air trivia, to running on-air commentary, interviews and profiles, DVD_TV offers endless ways for you to re-discover the movies you love--and thought you knew.

A lot of the information will not be new to Bond fans but could possibly provide some information for new or casual followers of the movies. Two of the examples of trivia in the promos for the screening is the fact that it was not until Thunderball that Sean Connery appeared in the gunbarrel and the fact that Ursula Andress did not audition for her role as Honey.
The concept is part of AMC's DVD-TV series which is aimed at targeting the audiences who enjoy the added special features offered by those shiny discs.

Here is the link on AMC's website:
http://www.amctv.com...ion?CID=110-EST

It takes awhile to load so here is the text:

"Television blasts into the information age with AMC's DVD_TV. You don't just watch your favorite movies--you get to experience them as never before.
One Sunday each month, in addition to airing one of Hollywood's top hits, we're surrounding it with a host of DVD-like extras to enhance your enjoyment of each film. From special editions of Backstory, our signature series that gives you the inside scoop on the making of a movie, to our exclusive Much More Movie, which showcases on-air trivia, to running on-air commentary, interviews and profiles, DVD_TV offers endless ways for you to re-discover the movies you love--and thought you knew.
Dr. No
Airs Sun., January 8 At 5:45PM and 8PM ET/PT

Sean Connery makes his debut as Bond, James Bond, the gentleman spy who always had a good time in going after the bad guys. Ursula Andress, meanwhile, kicks off the worldwide phenomenon of the "Bond girl" as the bikini-clad Honey Ryder. Shot on location in Jamaica, Dr. No changed the way we looked at heroes forever.

The mission begins Sun., January 8 at 5:45PM. Then get the story behind the movie during the trivia-packed Enhanced Version at 8PM ET/PT.

Get a sneak peek of Dr. No right here.

Is this the Bond flick to judge all others by?

What do you know about Bond's favorite drink?

Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and, um, that other guy... Do they hold a candle to Sean Connery, i.e., the Great One?

Read up on the talent behind Dr. No ."

With the on-air trivia, and running on-air commentary, interviews and profiles this will be the first time I have recorded a Bond movie from TV since I got the special edition DVDs of the movies.

Thanks to Devin for making this a QuickNews item.

This should make an interesting companion piece to the official MGM DVD which had an audio commentary (as this AMC broadcast also apparently has), but no trivia track.

Of course be sure to record the 8 p.m. showing.

The earlier 5:45 p.m. showing is just the standard broadcast of the movie that you can see on those other stations.

I added it to my TiVo To Do list this evening after getting back from work.

I am so looking forward to seeing what kind of 007 trivia is chosen to accompany the movie.

It will be nice to see Bond with less commercials. The main reason why I prefer AMC's marathons to Spike's.

Maybe it's because of the holidays, but it seems that Bond has been on TV a lot more lately. This is like the 4th time I can recall in the past 3 months. Maybe it's just me.

It's not. These marathons happen so often now that they do not even appear as "events" as they once did to me.

That's why the true "event" this time around is the DVD-TV presentation of Dr. No.

For the past three or four years they have been doing the marathons at Thanksgiving, and then they added Christmas. For me, it is all I watch because television has become stale to me.

I think it is time for a BOND Network! The Bond channel...24 hours of continuous bond...7 days a week. Movie after movie...we could just keep the TV on that one channel and do other things while we enjoy the greatest franchise in the history of film making!!

I guess the channel would be 007?

but are you complaining?

i will be catching this marathon (much more time to do so, now that the holidays are over). and it looks like OHMSS is getting one decent timeslot, which is more than spike gives it.

EDIT: i lied.... i thought the 715 timeslot was 715 pm. oh well. and mods.... pierce isnt appearing in any of the films, so why is his picture advertising the marathon on the front page?

I realize that, but it is one of the few TV-Bond related icons I was choosing from, so I picked that.

Not sure about that. I remember when AMC first got the rights to the Bond films a couple of years ago and they chopped up the movies to fit them into time slots. Spike shows a lot of commercials, but not at the expense of the films themselves. Both options are bad in my opinion, which is why I stick to my DVDs.

I've seen the AMC dvd-on-tv before, they made it on The Terminator, Airplane!, and Friday the 13th and now my fav bond along with FRWL i can't wait.

They don't comment on it or anything during the movie like it was done on the commercial, the words just appear underneath or else we'd have a tough time hearing all the dialogue while some narrator says what's being shown in words already.
