The Sun has seemed to have real inside information so far on the casting on this film. (They were very confident and first with the Craig stuff).

I have a feeling there is some truth in this, in spite of its tabloid source.

I have a hard time believing any of these three were even approached. Especially Scarlett, she's half Craig's age, it would not be believable.

I don't believe the denial from her agent.
But even if the Bond girl role is cast, they still have to cast the roles for
Le Chiffre
The 2 henchmen
Mathis
Felix Leiter
and other roles that I don't know of.

If it's true, however, that this many people are turning down the opportunity to be in this film, then one has to wonder how good the script currently is. Even though Daniel Craig is a top-notch actor, judging from some of the films he's been in (Tomb Raider, Enduring Love and even Layer Cake, which was only mediocre despite a nearly flawless performance by Craig), one could truly wonder what exactly Daniel Craig's interpretation of a good script is. Maybe CR is shaping up to be another DAD that no actress wants to be a part of based on the criticism that Halle Berry took for her role as Jinx.

While all Bond Girls are compared with Honey Ryder, this time she'll be compared with Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder AND Andress as Vesper Lynd.
It doesn't matter that the original CR was cr@p . . . Andress was an actress with a distinctive "look" that's hard for any modern actress (including "she who was made by God to be drooled over" Scarlett Johansson!!) to live up to

Plus, once she's cast, the Vesper actress is going to be compared constantly with Ursula Andress . . .

now the Scarlett Johansson definition.. it cracked me up!

well.. I guess it's possible that they will delay the start of filming a bit at this point? wouldn't be that much of a tragedy as long as it is kept within reasonable limits I guess.
If they postpone of, say, two-three weeks, that'll give them more time to search for the Vesper actress. Without causing too much trouble to the scheduled release date.
I really have no idea who they could approach at this point.
Many names have been mentioned on here and there indeed are a lot of valuable candidates among those.. but the seriously "rumoured" names were all far more famous than the ones most people here seemed to advocate.
Thinking about an established name, I'd say Catherine Zeta-Jones is going to be rumoured AGAIN for Vesper..or for a lesser known actress maybe Virginie Ledoyen? (the one in "The Beach" with Di Caprio).
At this point I really can't think who they would pick and why.. there's total silence on Vesper and on the rest of the roles to be cast as well. I guess there will be a surprise announcement in January.

However, this does rather remind me of all the actors who used the Bond casting for publicity then lied and put it about through

Even if the CR script is excellent, there's still the problem of convincing actresses (and the public) that it has something new to offer. Whereas, The Prestige has a lot of people very excited because of its storyline and the talent involved.

If Charlize Theron did indeed turn down the role, it very likely had nothing to do with the quality of the script. Remember, this is the lady who accepted the lead role in Aeon Flux. It is much more believable that she would turn down the role out of a fear of being typecast as a Bond girl.
Personally, I think it would be much more interesting to cast an unknown (or relative unknown) in the role.

Whereas in Bond, it doesn't even seem like Campbell or Wilson bothered to read the bloody book. No Moneypenny (when she was in it)? First mission? Aston Martin (Hello, Bentley?)? No smoking because he is a "role model" (for bloody sake, smoking is the least of your problems if this is what you are worried about)? Why they are trying to cast an American (so it seems at the moment) for Vesper Lynd? Lets not forget the "continuity crisis" of the film. The only thing redeeming is Craig and I am afraid he will get UNFAIRLY SCAPEGOATED if this film flunks.
As for Aeon Flux, it was a big fat paycheck plain and simple. Now she has money she can be as picky about what film and roles she wants. She doesn't need to make anymore, otherwise she will head into Halle Berry territory. A lot of good actors alternate between art film and commericial ones, i.e. Johnny Depp. I say good for her, she should persue smaller projects that will expand her range.

I don't believe any of these stars were approached and Vesper is probably already cast with a talented relative unknown who will be announced along with the rest of the cast in Jan. This is my theory, anyway.

I think Cecile de France was cast in October when we first heard about her.
I don't believe the denial from her agent.
But even if the Bond girl role is cast, they still have to cast the roles for
Le Chiffre
The 2 henchmen
Mathis
Felix Leiter
and other roles that I don't know of.
Two things:
I would love for de France to be Vesper.
I didn't buy the agent's denial either, but I don't know if I believe de France has been cast. Still, lovely to hope for...

Nah, I don't buy any of this. It's all tabloid invention (and "news" services like BANG who provide stories for tabloids). They create a story that these name stars are "up for the role", and when the time nears that we'll actually get some legit casting news they quickly belch out a story saying the stars was "turned down the role" and there's a "crisis."

Thanks for that moment of zen.

Yep, it seems to me that the Vesper casting rumors are following the exact same pattern as the Bond casting ones. The tabloids throw out their obvious, Hollywood big name Bond girl choices (Jolie, Theron) just like they did with Owen and Jackman, etc. When nothing happens after two weeks, the tabloids get pissed and start running "...turns down Bond girl role! CRISIS OMG UHH!" While in reality, EON were auditioning un/lesser known people like Alex O'Lachlan (who out of the blue talked about his audition to the press), now they're auditioning un/lesser known actresses like Cecile de France (who out of the blue talked about her audition to the press).
I agree it'll probably be kept secret until the press conference in Jan (though the casting will leak a couple of days beforehand, obviously). Maybe it really will be Cecile de France and Gulshan Grover!

Based on what I know - between The Prestige and Bond, I can understand why Johansson would take Prestige. The author of the book had high praises for the screenplay and look at the talent on board. Hell look at the plot of the story alone. Much more material to work with.
Whereas in Bond, it doesn't even seem like Campbell or Wilson bothered to read the bloody book. No Moneypenny (when she was in it)? First mission? Aston Martin (Hello, Bentley?)? I agree completely. It would be a shame for Daniel Craig to be the scapegoat of all of this, and hopefully it doesn't happen. The opportunity for it to happen certainly is there, because we all know that the Bond actor gets all the blame (usually) when the film doesn't live up to expectations (especially when it's the actor's first film in the role).

Scarlett Johansson has signed up for The Prestige which is filming at the same time as Casino Royale.

But its about...magicians

Garbage. Nothing to see here. Moviehole has nothing to offer - previous stories of theirs include Daniel Radcliffe playing young Bond in a Silverfin movie, John Cleese would be returning as Q for CR, Ioan Gruffudd was "the top contender" for Bond, and various other recycling of tabloid junk.
C'mon guys, do you really think they are going to audition Cecile de France and THEN start considering Jessica bloody Simpson? No. It ain't happening. Breathe a sigh of relief and move on.

If that bit of "news" is true, then it's the end of the franchise, no question about it. Jessica Simpson as Vesper Lynd? That's definitely enough to keep me away from the theater.

Tabloid garbage. Of course we've yet to hear about David Hasselhoff as Daniel Craig's replacement, Pamela Anderson as M's replacement "DD" and Barry van Dyke as Le Chiffre . . . along with a few third rate UK soap opera "actors" the hacks can think up between tokes of their spliffs! If that bit of "news" is true, then it's the end of the franchise, no question about it.
