Cool. I wonder how much extra $$ Craig will pocket for that...Being Bond is a better gig now than ever before!

Could the supposed delay have anything to do with the movie not actually being filmed yet? If the game makers want to capture the look of the film, presumably they'd have to wait for shooting to commence so they can capture the locations and actors, etc. I mean we don't even know who else will be in the movie yet, so starting work on a game this early is a bit presumptuous.

Aha- story's up now.

It's a shame, really; I was hoping for another game inbetween now and the movie's release, but I suppose on the one a year system..

I hope it's not going to be a rush-job. Less than a year seems to be a bit tight.

It would be interesting if the game slows down and you have to actually play cards against Le Chiffre. I wonder how that would work. I think that the PS TWINE game had cards in it but I never did play it. Rather exciting news though!

Not surprised at all. Very logical.

In terms of development, they've had well over a year. No doubt they'll probably use the EoN/FRWL engine. While they wait for the characters and so forth to get lined up, they'll work on upgrading the engine, the locations, etc. They'll probably even use the character model of Brosnan and Connery till they can get a glimpse of what Craig will look like as Bond. This is what they did for FRWL. Early demos of the game had Brosnan from EoN, not Connery.

Will be interesting to see what they add to the game though. Casino Royale is already said to have only one explosion. By my count, that's 2 or 3 less than From Russia with Love (the movie).

They better do something. GERA was a relative failure, and ironically, From Russia With Love is not fairing all that well either.

Yes, but this was much bigger news, so we made a CBn mainpage article - making all QuickNews links on it not needed.

Have you ever seen something that looked so painful or someone told a story about something really painful, that you actually grabbed that part of you body that the other person hurt? Yeah, that just happened to me. :D

Anyways, I think that a Casino Royale video game is a big mistake even with the upward progression of recent Bond games. I wouldn't want to possiblly jeapordize what could be a major turning point in Bond history, with a crappy version of it in another median.

Say the film rocks, critic love it, and the series is back on the right track. Then the game sucks, and the rest of the Bond games in the Craig ear and possiblly the next are in danger of being criticized early on. Or it could be really good and then the next few games suck, which would put the future of Bond games in danger, just like the Brosnan era.

Appreciate the submission, Gri007. Not sure EA or Eon wanted the news out there yet, but as it had leaked via kotaku.com, we were at least able to confirm. Hence, a main page confirmation story instead of a link.

I think it would be really cool if there is a card game level to the video game that you must win to advance. That would be truly unique to any video game.

I don't know. I would rather see an original game than a game based on Casino Royale. I also think it's a smarter business move. What if Casino Royale (the movie) bombs? The game will certainly bomb as well, and then you have two major franchise fronts sunk by the same title. Where's if Eon let EA do an original game using Craig's image, the fate of the two are less intertwined and Craig still has a shot of becoming the accepted face of James Bond to younger viewers who maybe didn't want to go see a James Bond "drama." I also think a better game could come of freeing EA from the constraints of doing an adaptation. Doing a Casino Royale game feels like a major step backwards for Bond gaming...back to games just being another bit of movie merchandise. And after GERA and FRWL, Eon and EA need a Bond game hit.

Of course, maybe they have a idea how to make this game great (as some here are saying, maybe it's a gambling game). Guess we'll find out soon enough what they have in mind.

2006 so far:
Blood Fever - New novel
The Golden Ghost - New Titan strips
Casino Royale - New movie
Casino Royale - New videogame.

Goodness me, such doom and gloom. Why would CASINO ROYALE bomb? It's not BOND 22, ya know. :D The mere fact of a new actor will put plenty of bums on seats - whether he'll end up a "popular" Bond remains to be seen, but good old Rog didn't really click with the public till THE SPY WHO LOVED ME.

As for a James Bond "drama" turning people off, eight words: THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH was a hit. (Awful film - IMO, anyway - but still a hit.)

Pull yourself together, man! :D

American History X. Enough said. The very thought of a certain scene gives me shivers.

There isn't much of a link in terms of success and failure between films and their video game adaptations that I'm aware of. Meaning if the film does bad, it doesn't necessarily mean the game will be bad (or sell bad) and vice versa. In fact I could point out a few instances where a really bad film had pretty much no effect on the sale of the video game. Take The Chronicles of Riddick for example. The movie flopped big time at the BO. It made $58 million on a $100+ million dollar budget. The game on the other hand sold very well for the Xbox. Hell they even rereleased it as a "directors cut."

2006 additions:
Moneypenny Diaries: Volume 2/Part 2 whatever
Movie tie-in rerelease of Fleming's novel  Just a guess.
