Well played Mr. Craig.

The timing make me wonder exactly when Craig really knew he had the part.

Speaking of agents, my own agent told me he just saw Daniel Craig recently. I didn't press for details...but maybe Craig was having a power lunch with his new reps. :D

But was it a US deal? I realise that Sony is a US company, but who is he actually contracted to? Sony or Eon? Aren't Eon a UK company? Thus would his US agent have anything to do with the deal?
I don't have a clue how these things works, mind.

Agents (and managers) get a percentage of all your acting income regardless of wheter or not they had a hand in getting you a particular job. The union takes a cut as well, as does your lawyer and, in some cases, a publicist.

So he would pay his US agent for UK work, even though he has a UK agent? Would there not be some deal whereby the US agent takes money for US gigs and the UK agent gets cash for the UK gigs? Otherwise he's paying double the price for being an international star- seems a poor way to go about things.

I'm not 100% on this, but I gather that Bill Murray no longer employs an agent. Essentially, he's his own agent. Filmmakers who are interested in him contact him (and this weeds out the timewasters, since only those who are established as very serious players have access to his contact details), and it's taken from there. Presumably, plenty of stars are in a similar position where the work comes to them, so why not cut out the middleman?

The implication in the story seems to be Craig knew or suspected he would be cast as Bond early in the year, what's that, like 8-9 months before it was announced? Sounds very odd, if true.

Which begs the question why the wait on casting announcement? The Brosnan fifth question and all the hoo-haa that went on for months. It was already established that Craig was in with the Broccoli's so it would seem this was tied up an age ago. Odd indeed. Heck without all this faffing about we could have had ourselves Bond 21 this year.

Craig and Barbara Broccoli both said at the press conference that the delay was due to the fact that there was no script. It sounds like Craig was offered the role in the March/April time frame, but did not accept until October when he was able to read a script.

I think Craig was really the choice from the very beginning. The only reason why they had all these screentests and readings was in the event that he wouldn't like the script and would decide to decline the role.

Every time I see that 10% article, I only imagine one thing...

CRAIG'S BOND: Well, Blofeld, I've ruined your hairbrained scheme, smashed your organization, and am under orders from my government to kill you. But I have some good news.

BLOFELD (Bald Man With Cat): What's that, 007?

BOND: I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance.

Sorry.

This thought just hit me tonight...but could Craig's old agency be behind the Daniel Craig/Casino Royale smear campaign to get back at him (and rival CAA and Eon) for this little maneuver?

Wait, are you suggesting they're financing, you know, that other site?

Or that they just tried to knock his teeth out and give him a sun rash?

They could be the "insider" that keeps getting quoted.
