Die Another Day was a really weak title IMO, but I'm not too fussed about Tomorrow Never Dies. Scorpion-I hear what you're saying there about thinking up of Bondian/Flemingeque films titles, but if fanfic authors can think of them, then surely the filmakers can, surely?

Well, he never did come up with an alternative title, did he?

And yes, I too agree that Die Another Day was a touch "lame"...The fans were waiting and waiting in anticipation of Bond 20's title as late as 2 months into filming, March '02, if I recall...and when I first heard that it would Be Die Another Day I was a underwhelmed.

The fans were discussing the merits of Beyond The Ice, Black Sun, Pressure Point, etc...None of those three were any better than Die Another Day...Live To Die Another Day would have been better...but...

...but that would have followed on the heels of another five word title, a great one, btw, from Fleming's OHMSS...the Bond family motto, Orbis Non Sufficit (sp.)

Anyway, TOMORROW NEVER LIES would have been more appropriate but I think AQUATOR would have been not too bad either...afterall, can you get any more wierd than OCTOPUSSY, especially when spoken by Louis Jourdan..LOL

'Avator' referred to a whole other story idea that eventually became TND. When the Hong Kong /gold story was binned, the producers considered a 'Broken Arrow' easy 'Thunderball' by numbers type film. An embittered CIA agent was to steal some nuclear warheads and hide them in Australia - with his identity an 'Avator' - like we have with our postings on a messageboard. Anthony Hopkins and Terence Stamp were considered for the part. Then they went back to the Harmsway/Carver story - TND was born. I think. But that could be speculative gossip from the papers in early 1996 and hence utter nonsense?!...Any ideas?..

I remember one of the Sydney newspapers in mid 1996 reporting just that, except of course they had "confirmed" that it was indeed going to be Terence Stamp playing the villain lol. They wanted to know if he would reprise his part from Priscilla Queen of the Desert!

Actually, I *believe* that in an early draft (I'll check the two I have - one titled Bond 18 the other TNL) the "Aquator" was not to be the name of the stealth ship, but rather the drilling drone itself.

The line "Aquator deployed sir." is sticking in my head for some reason. I'll try to check my drafts later today. Could be wrong, but *might* have something to back this up....somewhere.
