In the YOLT documentary Ken Adams is discussing how he was tasked to build for $1m the Volcano set after showing his concept drawings to Cubby. There is a still photo of him with a miniature of the volcano set, as if this it is a reference model to build the set from.

In the final scenes of the movie we see the Volcano blow up and it looks to me as this miniature is used as a close up for an internal explosion. One of the great production values about the Bond movies is the superb miniature special effects. The most noted effect guy of the series was Derek Meddings but there is no reference to him or any other in the credits. Who made this model?

On a similar line, were construction reference models generally used for Bond sets? What films were they? Or were they only built for effect production such as MWTGG power station explosion? What others do you like?

I was lucky to see some Bond miniatures (Flying Car and Atlantis) in London Planet Hollywood. The attention to detail is second to none. Where else do they exhibit these miniatures? Or do private collectors now own most of them?
