This is unrelated to the nuts but something else from FYEO that always bothers me whenever I see it. In the pretitle sequence, when Bond is about to drop the guy in the wheelchair down the smokestack (I assume this is supposed to be Blofeld) the guy starts pleading for his life and he says "Mr. Bond, we can do a deal, I'll buy you a delicatassin in stainlesssteel."
What does this mean?!
Anyone have any ideas?

That's an interesting question. I've never really thought about it.

Without re-watching the film all I can add is speculation.

Perhaps the nuts have a high tax and he smuggles it in and sells it tax free. Much like whiskey and beer so commonly was in the 1910's and 20's in America.

It's not great but hey it's an idea!

It's just a joke about the fact a delicatessen in stainless stell is bloody expensive, even more so in 1981 when stainless steel was much less of a commodity.

And also the added fact that the mafia would always buy the deli in stainless steel. It shows better quality. It's an undeworld thing :)

Do we ever actually get told that he imports them illegally? I can't remember.

I always thought it was a joke because Columbo is always munching them. Not exactly a ribtickler though.

LOL. Topol's Columbo is one of my favorite characters in all the 007 movies.

The rumor I've heard in regards to "delicatessen in stainless steel" was that it was added to prevent a lawsuit from McClory, who held the Blofeld/SPECTRE rights.

I am much relieved after seeing this topic for what it is. I thought at first maybe the actor Topol had a problem with his prostate or something.
