http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0238380/ - it really got bashed by critics for being a "Matrix Clone" despite the fact it didn't use any slow-mo shots OR wireworks. Its rating on IMDB is significantly higher. Below is some music video (not sure I like the "rock" tune of it) to give you an idea.

Stratus I actually worked on Equilirium a few years ago (post the film). It's a shame there wasn't more of a campaign put behind it as it a solid action film. Christian Bale is great. Personally I love the film and own it.

I saw the first half and was mildly intruiged, but somehow I never got around to finishing it. I remember being irritated that they felt they had to steal so heavily from Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World, etc.

I think the point was that it took heavily from those sources, the director/writer wasn't denying it.

Guy Montag's role was basically Christian Bale albeit he is no super assassin (a "Fire"man). The drug and "T" was from Brave New World and the Authoritarian government from 1984. The later half action scenes were pretty cool.

It's a solid action film (with some pretty great moments), but really flounders as any sort of commentary. Its original idea is a good one, but ultimately it never uses the idea's full potential. Definitely worth checking out though.

I saw the movie on DVD. I really didn't like it. At first I thought it was just me but then I watched it with some sci-fi friends of mine and they thought it was bland and boring too.

Yeah, aside from the action (which I think is really cool), it's nothing particularly great.

Love it. Essentially the film that convinced me Bale was the complete package in terms of being a Bond candidate. It's written and directed by Kurt Wimmer, who worked on the scripts for ''The Thomas Crown Affair'' remake and spy drama ''The Recruit''. I was looking forward to ''Ultraviolet'', his futuristic vampire movie starring Milla Jovovitch, but there's still not a definite release date as test screenings indicated serious problems with the plot and dialogue. :) A pity, since the action scenes are rumoured to be outstanding.

I loved it, personally. I went out to see it primarily because there were rumors going about that Christian Bale was going to be in the Metal Gear Solid movie, and Equlibrium sold me on the idea of it.

Saw it on DVD a while back. It's one of those 3/5 star movies. Decent enough entertainment - the fight scenes are good. I particularly remember thinking that the ending was surprisingly quick - no excessively dragged out final fight.

I LOVE Equilibrium. It's actually on my "Favorite Films" list. I like it more that any of the Matrix films and don't feel like it was taking from the Matrix to the extent that people say it was. I love the whole using guns as swords/martialart ("Gun Kata") type fighting -- both the gun and sword fights were memorizing to me. I love it when a film actually has a great sword fight when it's not some war/battle film. The plot is great ("Sense Offense"), the acting, the relationships... it's all wonderful. I would recommend this film to anyone, it's a smart flick.

Here's a great fan site all about the film and it's concepts: http://www.freewebs....ilibrium-movie/

Excellent film, but, like Harmsway said, it didn't quite live up to it's potential.

Don't think it's worth the $40 price tag that the DVD tends to go for up here in Canada, either.

The film is no Citizen Kane or Vertigo, but its entertaining. Considering the budget of the film is 20 million it looked pretty good. I am surprised it would cost that much in Canada. It's $15 in the United States (Amazon).

The budget was only 20 mil? Nice. The SFX occaisionally looked really low budget, tho.

Definitly looked that way.

Funny thing, Kurt Wimmer (director) made a $500 bet with Bale that Bale would play Batman one day during the Equilibrium shoot.
