The Telegraph

"Samantha Bond, 43, who played Moneypenny four times, said she had known that the character would not be making an appearance in the new film. It had also been difficult for her to contemplate playing alongside anyone but Pierce Brosnan.

"As for Daniel as Bond, I think it is an absolutely brilliant choice. He is butch, male, attractive and a bloody good actor. He was by far the most plausible choice," she said."

We've heard this a lot over a long period of time, but one wonders: why should this be?

Not trying to insinuate anything, just curious: why would she not be keen on the idea of doing another Bond film and (presumably) earning a reasonable amount of cash for it unless Brosnan returned too? Seems a bit strange to me.

I think she's being loyal. Something the Bond producers could learn a thing or two about.

Personal preferences, being "set" into the role with a certain Bond. I personally don't seen it as that odd of a belief.

I think that's being a little unfair. The Bond producers have been very loyal.

Remember that the Bond production movies are like a family - they keep hiring the same people from film to film from the production designer to tea boy.

Director John Glen was able to direct five movies straight - if thats not being loyal I don't know what is.

Samantha Bond does the right thing.

As for loyalty - what if EON just made the decision to do a re-boot and Pierce was so pissed that he turned this around to make them look evil?

They asked Brosnan back and then changed their minds. They betrayed him and his audience.

If they wanted to reboot, they should have done it with Brosnan.

Does this mean that Samantha Bond will change her mind and return for Casino Royale even without Pierce on board?
Although it will be confusing to have an "old" cast member with the "new" re-boot of the franchise.
I even read that there won't be a Miss Moneypenny or a Q in Casino Royale.

But then it wouldn't be a true reboot.

What I think is odd is that Dame Judi hasn't followed the same line of thinking, especially considering CR is now a 'new start'.

However, it isn't yet confirmed that she'll return. Campbell is now remaining tight-lipped about whether M will be male or female, and nothing seems to have been signed.

Well Martin Campbell would not say in the interview if M was going to be male or female.

Perhaps Moneypenny will be back for Bond 22? And Dench could come back then (providing they hire CR's M for a one-off)

That wouldn't make sense though because Craig is still going to be 007 in Bond 22 (regardless of how CASINO ROYALE does at the box-office).

Well, I'm not saying Craig shouldn't come back. I'm saying they jump forward in time after CR to the period of Moneypenny and a female M.

So you think there should be a new one-time male M for CR and Judy Dench and Samantha Bond should return for Bond 22? Won't that be a little confusing for the general audience?

I don't see why it would be. Actors change in Bond films all the time. I'm not claiming it's necessarily the best course to take, but it's a possibility.

I don't want to make a new thread on this (especially given the source), so I'll cling to the "___ approves of Craig"

Maybe this has been noted already. Anyhoo.. Diana Rigg approves.

"They've gone against the grain with Daniel and I imagine all those sourpuss critics will be proved wrong; he's a fantastic choice. He can do dangerous and rugged."

http://www.contactmu...s...g thumbs up

At least Mrs. Bond approves, eh? :)
