One of the many distinguishing and enduring elements of the bond movies is the often sensous, dazzling and memorable images of the title/credit sequences during the song or main theme.
we havn't discussed or ranked these sequences which really do make the movies UNIQUELY BONDIAN.
i'll kick off:
Most memorable (in chronological order):
1...Goldfinger- Robert Brownjohn...love the projection on the golden girl(s)
2...Thunderball-Maurice Binder...first in a line of naked sillouetted girls. still stands up to this day
3...OHMSS-Maurice Binder...love the way bond "runs" from the pre-titles into the main titles in slow motion. this method would be repeated with the likes of TSWLM and TWINE. the killer barry theme helps enormously but that means i'm "cheating"...although i still think it stands up "on its own"
4...TSWLM-Maurice Binder...very romantic and atmospheric with bond being a main part of it throughout for the first time.
5...Goldeneye-Daniel Klienmann...a fantastic debut for DK. very sexy and yet forboding. his tribute to binder.
i also have a soft spot for the titles of YOLT, DAF and LTK
how about the rest of you?
cheers, ray

I'd say
Thunderball
The Spy Who Loved Me
The World is not Enough
Goldfinger
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
A View to a Kill
but I think the worst might be Licence to Kill it's just not very smooth with the segue from pre titles to titles through that camera

The worst is LTK,jesus it was outdated even back in '89.The best to this date in TND.It is very original and keeps up with the pace of the song.I was blown out of my mind when I saw it for the first time. The best of the rest are as follows....
1.Goldfinger
2.A View To A Kill
3.Goldenyeye
4.Moonraker
5.Live and Let Die

1. Thunderball
2. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
3. GoldenEye
4. The Spy Who Loved Me & A View to a Kill - Joint beacause many of the shots from TSWLM ae repeated in AVTAK. It was to do with the budget.
5. From Russia With Love & Goldfinger - Joint
6. Tomorrow Never Dies - I'm one of the few who enjoy it.
7. You Only Live Twice
2. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
3. GoldenEye

1. OHMSS
2. Live and Let Die
3. Thunderball
4. GoldenEye
5. A View To a Kill
Hard to believe I would ever vote A View To a Kill in the top 5 for anything.

The second worst? That would be TMWTGG. For the first minute we see the golden gun. Then the camera pans around a girl for two next minutes, then some girls jump feet-first into (I assume) a pool. Whoop-de-doo...
LALD's only good part was the woman's head turning into the burning skull.
Other than that (and what I mentioned above) they're all pretty good.

I'm fond of From Russia With Love; simple (compared to overt computer wizardry), but very effective. GoldenEye tries to add to the narrative, which is novel, and all the better for it. A View to a Kill titles are horrific, and incredibly dated. The titles to Licence to Kill seem very dark, but are probably better off that way, because they're not very inspired. I think Binder ran out of steam by Live and Let Die.

Tomorrow Never Dies are the best. - Really why does no-one ever believe me - They are the best!
Dr. No second best - I love them
A View to a Kill third - i disagree they look dated, the use of luminescence and neon colours is making a comeback in graphic design, with a little more refinement they wouldn't look out of place in a new music video.

Difficult.........very difficult.
Well, here's my choice:
1) Licence To Kill: Great one. Binder's last.....but most original and modern one. Very modern women, combined with some casino stuff...very original.
2) On Her Majesty's Secret Service: I love the symmetrical positioned women. Also the colours were very nice.
3) Golden Eye: With these main titles I thought in the cinema that Maurice Binder still lived. After seeing TND and TWINE I'm VERY certain that he died. How sad.
4) Live And Let Die: One of the most thematic main titles of Maurice Binder if you ask me. I liked it a lot. A pity that it was not made on panavision film format :-(
5) Goldfinger: Brownjohn inspirated Binder, I think. Veru extravagant women. Especially the last part of the main titles with all the colour and explosions on the body.

after 14 posts this is how the votes are shaping up:
1 - GoldenEye.......10 votes
2 - Goldfinger
= OHMSS.............9 votes each
4 - AVTAK..............6 votes
5 - Thunderball
= TSWLM.............4 votes each
7 - YOLT
= LALD................3 votes each
9 - Moonraker
= TND.................2 votes each
11 = DR, FYEO, LTK, TWINE...1 vote each
this is just an unscientific tally as i have not taken votes off for "worst" or "hate"
also some of you gave only 2 or 3 faves while one of you gave up to 9 faves (including a couple of joint faves.)
Please, if you have not voted for your top 5 please do so.
Three of them seem to be head and shoulders above the rest; interestingly one each from Brownjohn, Binder and Kleinmann.

TN[L] 's titles were the worst, TWINE's the second-worst. The best? Hard to say, I don't like the Goldfinger titles that much, but they are very good. TLD has excellent titles and so does OHMSS. Though OHMSS' hourglass with the previous films passing through could be done a little bit better. The pictures don't 'squeeze' into the centre enough.
Didn't I start a topic on this a while back? ???
I lost my 'net connection for about a week, so I probably missed a lot.
