I still cannot understnd what is wrong with gerard Butler for the role of 007. Butler seems so much more Bond to me than any of the rumoured candidates in the final round of screen testing. Was it the infamous "I'm the next 007" comment back in the late 90s that irked EON so much that they will not even consider him. He has all the chops for Bond and wants to do it too so why he has been virtually ignored makes no sense. How on earth could Goran or O'Lachlan even be considered before Butler? I think EON is blowing an opportunity for a guy who would really be a crowd pleaser acroos the board.

Well, I mean... I totally agree with you. Who knows why. Maybe it was those comments (and I will never, never understand why they don't want anyone who is willing to express enthusiasm about the role, or even discuss it at all.) Maybe Butler wanted more money than Eon was willing to pay. Maybe after his career started taking off a bit, he decided he didn't want the part after all. Maybe Eon decided they wanted someone who was the complete opposite of Brosnan, because then he won't be compared as much to the popular previous Bond, or because Casino Royale really is going to be a completely different portrayal of the film Bond character than we've ever seen. Maybe Craig's being personal friends with Broccoli was significant. Who can say? This search certainly seemed haphazard, in any event. Had they sat down with a list of criteria -- height, nationality, age, looks, a certain moderate level of fame, action star credentials, charm, etc. -- and looked for the person who matched the criteria most closely, you would have thought Butler would have been at or close to the top. I don't think that's how they handled it, though.

Just seems so strange that he is not one of the front runners for the role. Even Davenport would have been a strong contender I would have thought. They both would be safe choices in the right age range, level of fame and Bondian looks. If EON picks Goran over these guys I'll be very dissappointed. If it's Craig, then I'll wait to see the film before judging him.

I always supported Butler... I sure don't understand why he isn't among the frontrunners...
