I love this song. Cannot praise it enough.

Which version of it do you prefer and why? I'll be adding in my own thoughts soon.

I think they're both very, very good. If you twist my arm I'd have to go with the main version. Its enigmatic tone and melancholic lyrics blend together well.

They're both fantastic. I'm going to go with the underrated main title song, even if the end title is quite simply, funky.

I prefer the main version. It is glamorous and extremely fine. If only they could get Shirley Bassey back to sing the main title song.

I too prefer the main version. It's a wonderful ballad beautifully sung by Shirley Bassey. Undoubtedly, it's one of the most underrated of the Bond title songs mainly (I think) because of the comparison between it and Bassey's other Bond title songs, the "iconic" Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever.

I guess I'm just a fan of the cheese, I prefer the remix at the end. Heck, it fits the period the film is set in perfectly. :)

I like the opening version - but the end version got my vote purely for that opening riff which would've marked the movie in the same way the opening riff of the credits of DAF marked that song.

I also think they are both very good, but I voted for the remix at the end.

The Main Title song has the appropriate scale and "largessse" for a Bond title song, whereas the end title cue is more of a fun piece.

Mine used to be the end-title. It is a fun, fast-paced song. I think I prefer the main, slower version to it now. (It's my all time favorite of the series.) It's too bad that it's so overlooked and underrated when compared to her two earlier songs and others.

I voted for the Main Title version. The Disco take at the end always seemed like a punchline to the whole movie, especially after Dr. Goodhead's "Take me 'round the world one more time" line. After the groanworthiness of those final words the Disco version kicks in and the viewer is washed in a sleazebath! And as Genrewriter already pointed out, that sums up the era perfectly.

Oh, hell yes!

What's not to love?

One of the best villains in the series with some of the greatest lines - ever. Lois Chiles as Holly Goodhead is greatly underrated and an interesting Bond girl on the whole, the score by Barry and the title song by Bassey are #1 in the respected categories in my book.

And the film itself...it's #2 for me. Just under The Spy Who Loved Me.

We got something in common, Qwerty.. Moonraker was the first movie I remeber seeing when I was young.. FYEO is my second fav... For me the Moore Bond had a certain "Feel" to them. Dont get me wrong, im a fan of the series as a whole, but whenever I see the Gunbarell and see Roger walking like only he can, I feel soo comfortable. As for the Main title/end title debate, I have to vote for the end title, you cant help tapping your feet or snapping your fingers at the first few cords as the shuttle flys by...

I think the main title works beautifully with the title sequence. However, for some odd reason this song and TWINE's song i dont particularly care to listen to even though I have both in my Bond music playlist through iTunes. Essentially, i think its been since the first time i listened to it on my own I was exhausted from schoolwork and fell asleep. I have a odd reaction to yawn everytime i hear it. I do think its great quality whereas i feel TWINE is a piece of "garbage" all together.

Don't get me wrong, O Prolific One, I'm in total agreement with you! Moonraker has always been a gtreat bit of fun and I'm probably the most devout Corinne Dufour fan at CBn! I'm also one to include Drax on my short list of great Bond villains. Let the lovefest continue!!! :)

I heard Giorgio Moroder was originally going to produce the song, with Donna Summer or Kate Bush singing. It would have been more like the end titles disco version. Too bad it never happened, because that end titles version is seriously lacking, diluted Moroder.

End Title takes it. The "normal" song works well enough in the movie but on its own, it's borderline comatose (though admittedly beautiful). Despite being crooned by the most prolific Bond title song performer, it's not quite right for a 007 movie, lacking any "edge" whatsoever. Of the slower Bond songs (main or end title), I find the "normal" MR rendition TOO slow for regular "out of movie" listening. For me DAF, All Time High, LTK and If You Asked Me To (In addition to the oft cited Nobody Does It Better and FYEO) are all more effective at combining a slow pace with involving rythms. Without the disco-tinge, the MR theme is DOA.

In my ranking of "listenability" for the title songs, MR is above only Cheryl Crow's dismal TND. I'd trade the MR main title for another LuLu song any day.

Seriously, though I like both versions. I enjoy listening to the smooth main title version if I'm in the mood for something slow, but as cheesy as the end title is, I like listening it as well. Even though it's a little dated, I agree with one other poster in that it totally fits in with Dr. Goodhead's "take me around the world one more time".

Great ending to a great movie!!!!!

:)! I wanted to put end "disco" title and ended up putting main title! :)

Anyways, I like the disco one so much better. The main title is too sleepy. Great, but too sleepy. Go disco.

Definitely Disco Moonraker. I always loved listening to it on the soundtrack LP as a kid.
