Agreed 100%. And I hope CASINO ROYALE will bring back that good old-fashioned "travelogue" quality, which films like THUNDERBALL, YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE and THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN are so rich in.

We can only hope. When was the last time Bond stayed in one locale long enough for the audience to get something of a real feel for the place? Egypt in TSWLM? The Greek isles in FYEO? And even those were pretty fleeting...

(Okay, I forgot India in Octopussy... but that was more "camp" than real culture.)

There was Korea and Cuba in Die Another Day...OH wait a minute that was actually Spain and jolly old England :)

Yes, I miss the travelogue feeling.

If they do film there, beautiful as it is, it will be yet another rod the critics will beat them with. As ever with Campbell, anything to stay away from invention and freshness.

Although if Brosnan comes back a lot of CASINO ROYALE could risk looking an awful lot like AFTER THE SUNSET.

View Post

That could be a very big problem. I liked AFTER THE SUNSET, but I would hope that they would vary the film a little bit so it doesn't look or feel like a duplicate of that film.

Cool news for sure, let's see how they'll use the location with the story itself.

Oh the press will have a fun enough time asking Brosnan about his anti-007 trash talk.

Hey, how's this for a mad 'Bondian' moment. What about an underwater casino?. :)

Filming in the Bahamas could kill two birds with one stone.

There's a certain 20-year resident of the Bahamas who'd be a fair-to-middling Bond if he wasn't too young: a ceratin Sir Sean Connery... :)

Thanks John. :)

I can imagine Bond ( in evening suit ) being escorted by a henchman down some steps leading to a rather posh underground foyer. Bond is hesitant at first to obey the henchman's beckoning into a strange looking 'pod'. Eventually he decides to fall-in with this strange situation. The pod shuts with a soft locking sound, and the pod is propelled at extremely high speed through the sea via a cacophony of glass tubes.

Okay, it sounds like a mixture of The Living Daylights and The Spy Who Loved Me, but I think it would add some eccentricity back into the film.

An underground casino - while sounding a bit like that Ricky Martin video - is a very cool Bond idea. I like the propelling pod thing, too, Bondian. :)

Slightly off-topic, but does anyone happen to know when exactly (as in dates) they shot the scenes on the Nabila for NSNA? And were the scenes all shot in the Bahamas, or did they use some other dock?

I agree with you Righty....If EON is telling proposective actors to read the book to prepare for the movie then they really should be filming the movie in the country where the book is set.

Well now that wouldn't make a lick of sense, you can't have the adaptation of book set in the same place as the book! Outrageous!!

Haven't seen that, but thank you spy. :)

The idea came to me when Agent 76 posted that beautiful picture.

Really, considering most of the earlier Bond villains has some insane locations. I think a "beneath the sea" casino would double-up as the Le Chiffre lair. Just a regular casino would be far too boring for a Bond film.

Cheers,

Ian

Yeah, the 2000 video for She Bangs has Martin walking onto a beach, diving into the ocean, and then coming across an underwater club. He enters through a sheet of water. At the end of the video, he swims back ashore. So it would get compared to that. However, it's the *kind of thing* I wish Bond movies did a bit more. For all the much-trumpeted use of the Ice Hotel in DAD (a pretty similar idea), I didn't get any real sense of the place as being fantastic or absurd. They seemed to miss the entire point of it - apart from when it all gets crushed at the end, where was the establishing of the iciness of it? We saw about three seconds of footage. In the real Ice Hotel in Sweden, you have to sleep in furs, and so on - did Bond look cold? No, he looked like he was in any other casino. No flair. I hope they get back to the OTT stuff, but the OTT stuff that was cool. The Ice Hotel and the robo-mechanics and all that just fell flat for me - though at least they tried to do it after the poe-facedness of the previous film. Can't really put my finger on it, but I think an underwater casino is a very Flemingesque idea - even if a similar idea has been used in a pop video. :)

Martin Campbell checking out the idea. :)

Thanks for that spy. :)

It's a shame they couldn't of used Bermuda as they could of tied that in with "the lost city of Atlantis". Le Le Chiffre has a powerful navigation 'disrupter', and hijacks the ships and planes for just pure enjoyment. Ah, that's too crazy an idea even for a Bond film. :)

You know, I feel stupid, but until I looked at that map of The Bahamas, I never realized that the Barrelhead Bar sequence in LTK is supposed to be set in The Bahamas (Bimini). I always assumed it was still in the Florida Keys. Guess that's why he needed to the speedboat. :)

Be it the Bahamas, Sth Africa or, as Brosnan put it in DAD, bloody Aldershot - I would be happy if it was just playing the part as is. Tired of locales and studio backdrops playing locales - they can't get away with this as they would have in the 60's - people have travelled too far to be convinced otherwise, and those that haven't have all seen the travelogue programmes.

And commenting on the story on the other site that seemed to be quoting CBn as CBn was quoting it (how did that happen?) I am thinking the right way to go is with Brosnan - no one else named has inspired and the origin story is right cr-p when all said and done.

Especially as currently, they are keeping the current M and Q incumbents. Cubby was right - no one's interested in the origin story - move on and just do the story. Gimics are for series that go to number three and no more.

LOL. Are you talking about the link to IGN in the story? I added that link after I posted our story (and, obviously, after he read it). I thought it had a good summery and perspective of the latest Pierce rumor.

I like this "Stax" fellow. His reporting on CR has been clear and insightful and I like that he's careful to note sources.

Wasn't Pierce in the Bahamas when he was dropped from the role?
Wouldn't it be odd if Eon took him back there to shoot Casino Royale.

PIERCE: "Hey look, that's where I was standing when I got the call that you &%#*s had fired me! Hahaha! Good times!"

*Martin Campbell slowly backs away*

Just one more reason to have a BCW9 in the Bahamas, I say...lot closer to home than S. Africa. Nicer beaches too, apparently :)

I agree. If they're not going to set it in South Africa (which I was in favor of), let's go with the location that Fleming has in his novel. France should be the location for Casino Royale, especially since that's where the novel takes place.

You're always on the ball Bondian!

A few weeks back there was a news report about the world's first underwater hotel built in the Seychelles.

It was fantastic, can't remember how deep it was but the rooms and dining areas were mainly made of transparent materials and the view was stunning!
