That's really fascinating. I've never quite looked at it that way. But it does make sense, especially about the sexuality. It's the Bond films, Bond is the worlds best lover.

I think the bit in LTK when the villain tries to shoot Bond in the plane is a good example of a villain just shooting Bond and Bond using quick thinking to save his life (although I doubt a wad of banknotes that thick would stop a bullet fired from a gun.)

I say there is a reasonable explanation for it all...
They enjoy it.
They enjoy watchig Bon plead, and sometimes struggle for his life. They enjoy the debates with the man they treat as an honored guest, knowing in a short time, they will simply end his life, regardlss of who wins the verbal arguement. They like to sicken him with what's going to happen, and even let him watch all he has fought for fall. And finally, they watch him respect their well-thought out, if sick, plots. They know they will see the finl look of misery and torture on his face. Not something that you get with a gunshot. They are too confident in themselves,if they thought Bond was a serious threat to them (like near the ends of flims), they kill him however they can. These people are most obviously psychos, and have no problem with death, and probably enjoy it. They hate Bond enough to enjoy his long, slow death as muh as humanly (or inhumanly) possible.
Besdes, Bond has had more than his share of bullets fired at him.

well, I think it adds to a tense feeling in a film to have a larger than life demise. Or in the case of FRWL with 007 and Grant, it was for a great dialouge scene that led to a great fight. Anyone can just shoot someone, but only a few can have a OTT demise. But Dr. Evil said it best:
"I am going to put him in an eaisly escapable situtation, involving an overly elaborate and exotic death." lol

Aw, how lovely. The Cbn guys are having a totally irrelevant love in.
This kind of makes me want to delete all your posts, huh?
Unless you have something constructive to say, rather than trying to turn UniVex into a mini-Cbn.

It pains me to say that the worst offenders of this rule are
Wint and Kidd. They drive Bond all the way out into the Nevada desert
to what? Shoot and bury him in the sand as any respectable goodfella
might do? NO. They stick him ALIVE in an irrigation pipe that they HOPE
no one looks in and that is ultimately inspected by both man and
machine. As far as easily-escapable deaths go, I think this ranks as
the series #1.
