I always thought Dylan McDermott (from the Practice) looks a lot like Fleming's as well as a cinematic Bond, much more so than a lot of the other so called candidates.

I don't really know what he is like as an actor, do you think he could pull it off even though he is american?

He'd make a better Hal Jordan or Britt Reid than he would James Bond.

I don't see it.

I was watching House today though and I noticed that, aside from his hair, Hugh Laurie definitely screams Fleming's Bond.

TELEPATHY?? as we were discussing about all sorts of names yesterday for the new Bond, I DID think about Dylan McDermott and had your same exact thought "too bad he's american". Yes I think he'd make a GREAT Bond. He is very good at acting. And the lawyer he portrays in the practice does have something "bondian" in himself. anyway he has it all.. very good looking, tall, elegant, good actor (but not so famous in hollywood, except for the fact actresses fall for him all the time and he was engaged to Julia Roberts).. so yes, he'd make a great Bond. But he's American and I don't think an American could do it. Accent but most of all culture and attitude are too different. otherwise in past times they would've chosen an American sooner or later, with all the good choices they could have had from hollywood. If it were an American, at that point there would be lots of other choices (I was citing Matthew Fox, Michael Vartan and Patrick Dempsey yesterday).. including hiring a major star to do it... (and to me, the major star would be George Clooney at that point. Man, would he make a terrific Bond if he was British! lol).
oh well. But yea, good Dylan does have the aspect of an excellent Bond I think. :)

I was sure you were joking about Patrick Dempsey, Alessandra, but having Googled him I see he must have had some serious plastic surgery. I can't find photos of him as an ubergeek in MEATBALLS III or CAN'T BUY ME LOVE, but here's a photo of him in his 'prime':

Posted Image

That's the guy I remember. But then I found the following picture, which is apparently what he looks like now:

Posted Image

Is that Patrick Dempsey? It doesn't even look like the same person to me. He looks like Marti Pellow. The shape of his face is different. What's up? Is this him, or someone else?

McDermott always reminded me of Lazenby. Wouldn't mind him at all as Bond - IF you could cure the accent. Otherwise, perfect.

And, of course, being American he would help sell the movie in the US. Which would be beneficial also - and no cop-out.

PS - Spy, that's the guy I remember as Patrick Dempsey, too!

LMAO SPY! have you ever taken a look at your pictures as a teenager?!?!??!?! do you AT ALL look like that now??!?!
that's what happened to Patrick!!! I don't look AT ALL like I did as a teenager now (And I can say I'm DEFINITELY better now). Dempsey was a teen in those movies, now he's a grown-up man. He has a decent haircut (And not those HORRIBLE 80's fashion pile of curls) and the face is exactly the same, only that of a grown-up man, in good shape and with a good taste!. YES that's what he looks like now... VERY sexy and VERY attractive, so OF COURSE I wasn't joking! he's got a great body and face to portray Bond. I rule him out because he's american, but hell, if they are seriously thinking about the Croatian, then I vote PATRICK BIG TIME! :)
plus he's a very good actor. (don't know if you're aware of his career evolvement.. he won an Emmy for portraying a mentally disturbed guy in US series "once and again" which aired on ABC for two seasons until a coupla years ago).

Yes, I remember what I looked like in my teens. I looked like Patrick Dempsey in MEATBALLS III! :) And I do look a little more presentable now. I see what you're saying. Must just be an odd picture. Look, here's a still of Dempsey in GREY'S ANATOMY, A TV series from this year:

Posted Image

That looks like an older Patrick Dempsey to me. And yes, he's aged quite well. But this photo:

Posted Image

That doesn't look like Patrick Dempsey to me. Either it's a weird photo, he's had surgery - or it's someone else. I can't see the guy in the other photo in this one. Perhaps it's just my eyes. Or because I look more like Dempsey in the first photo than the second. :)

I saw Dylan, in Petersen's "In the line of fire" along with Clint eastwood, and i thought he could be a good James Bond, altough i think he's not so tall, but now, maybe is too late, he's 44, and not in line with the recent clues Eon gave us.
Regarding Dempsey, I remember him in some movies when he was younger, just the same with the first pic you see, I'd never thought he could be Bond, but with this recent one, maybe he could have the right look

LOL it's the SAME GUY!! and he looks exactly like in the second photo.. the first pic isn't that great... I was JUST about to post "watch Grey's Anatomy and you'll get the picture!!"..but you found it, what a resourceful guy you are! LMAO!! the meatballs 3 stuff had me fall of my office chair laughing!!
IN any case..MAN is Patrick goodlooking. Lol.
I suggest, to picture him like Bond, watch the scene in the elevator in episode 2 of grey's anatomy's first season. (the second season will start shortly in the US)
I have a CD of that episode with me, I copied it for a colleague, since we had episode 1 on monday here.. and everyone's crazy about it (HIM) already.
I have a subscription to one of those US file sharing programs where I can download all the tv series.. never been so happy to spend some money on a subscription! lol
but I don't think I can post the video on here, right?? LOL
he is VERY goodlooking..AND sexy. and Grey's Anatomy was a big hit on US tv last season.. part of the whole ABC getting back plan (BTW.. abc is Disney... hugh jackman is disney...all the good stuff seems to be on one side! lol). They had Desperate Housewives, Lost and Grey's Anatomy which literally ROCKETED their ratings.. and they seem very capable of choosing leading men.. YA HEAR ME BABS???????????????? lol

But actually for the fun of it, I'll write down the (I think) kind of "Bond-style" lines of the elevator scene between him and Meredith (very cute girl, who had this LITTLE "uh-oh" moment when she found out the guy she just had had a one night stand with actually was her CHIEF OF SURGERY at the hospital she just started working at..needless to say the guy is Dempsey).
So.. meredith's right behind him (On purpose, to try and avoid his irresistible charm..) and she goes on on how she can't possibly see him, visibly nervous because she CANNOT resist him (And HE cannot resist HER)..
Scene: elevator, doors close, dempsey looking at doors, Meredith behind him, looking at his shoulders (LOL):
Meredith: "I won't go out with you anymore"
Dempsey: "Did I ask you to go out with me?" PAUSE...turns and places that little smile on her... turns back without looking at her "do you wanna go out with me?"
M: "I'm not dating you, and I'm definitely NOT sleeping with you again. You're my boss"
D: (with that typical sarcastic Bond tone) "i'm your boss's boss"
M: (getting more nervous) "you're my teacher, and my teacher's teacher, and my teacher"
D: (rolling his eyes up) "I'm your sister, I'm your daugher"
M: "You're sexually harassing me"
D: "I'm riding an elevator"
M: "look. I'm drawing a line. The line is drawn. There's a BIG... line."
D: (pause... makes that "I'm not gonna give up" smug) "so.. this line (turns completely towards her and stands in front of her.. KIND OF CLOSE) is it imaginary, or do I have to get you a marker??"
PAUSE... AND OF COURSE SHE DROPS ALL OF THE DOCUMENTS SHE'S HOLDING ON THE ELEVATOR FLOOR AND THEY KISS FOR FIVE FLOORS ON THE ELEVATOR. LOL

Now.. this can EITHER be moneypenny dreaming about Bond or BOND ACTUALLY saying and doing it with a Bond girl. It does sound a lot like Bond to me.
AND PATRICK IS HOT! LOL

lmao NO WAY Pellow's got ANY more chance than Patrick or Marat!! Safin obscure?? are you not a sports fan.. because he's one of the biggest and most popular tennis players of the circuit! he won the Australian Open this season!
how can you POSSIBLY say Pellow looks like DEMPSEY!??!! he's thinner with less muscles, he's got straight short hair, he's got NONE of those BEAUTIFUL dempsey eyes, and neither he has that sort of "so yea i'm sexy" smile that Dempsey has. (AND BOND HAS). Pellow is a good looking guy, but he certainly doesn't look like Dempsey..
and NO Dempsey hasn't had ANY sort of surgery, (And you can definitely tell from the nose, which wasn't perfect and still isn't perfect) GET REAL!! look at Tom Cruise in "Risky Business" and Tom Cruise in MI2.. TOTALLY different! and he has had NO surgery. Simply: different hairstyle from that horrible 80s stuff, and NOT A TEEN anymore!! Aging well can make a LOT of difference. And a nice haircut, better taste in clothing, and losing weight can do miracles!!
Have you ever seen Meg Ryan when she started off in the 80s, when she was playing Betsy in "as the world turns"? (YES THE SOAP OPERA). well TAKE A LOOK! and then tell me if there isn't a DRASTIC difference with how she is now.
ESPECIALLY for people who started acting very young in the 80s, the difference is amazing, because of the HORRIBLE fashion, hairstyle and makeup habits of that era.
Dempsey is HOT. period. :)

We don't treat certain subjects with that "ohgoodnessimtalkingaboutsomethinginappropriate" attitude that Anglo-Saxons have.. we just enjoy them! lol
Seriously.. my American friends are cracked up everytime they hear me and my friends talk about men, or commenting on other people's clothing or aspect.. it's innate in an Italian to do that.. just please don't take offense if I say certain things. Anybody else think Dylan McDermott looks a lot like Clive Owen in some of those pics in the attachment?

I too am amazed at the long way Patrick Dempsey has come. He kind of reminds me of Athony Michael Hall of The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles, shaking the teen dork image to become a stud type.
