You know, I'm with you on that. I thought about this today when I plucked my German SilverFin from my mailbox. IFP delivers. Eon doesn't deliver, doesn't comment, and generally treats us fans like we're the scum of the earth. And we worship them. Why? What will they deliver after these 4 long years are up? A two hour movie that will be...decent enough. But just two hours of material for all this pain?Wow. Ian Fleming Publications cares about it's fans. I think I'm going to focus on Blood Fever now instead of Casino Royale because the rumors/speculation regarding the film are frustrating me.
Sure, I love the films, but by the time Eon delivers to me those two hours we will have three new novels, 3 new videogames, several great books from Titan, and the promise of much more to come. How cool was it of IFP to tell us about the 2008 book now? And how about that special edition SilverFin? And they have the decency to shoot down rumors and, gasp, actually communicate directly with the fansites!
Heck, if the movies vanished tomorrow I really wouldn't give a crap. I feel like the people who really "get" Bond these days are IFP and EA anyway.
(Of course, once I lay my eyes on that first Casino Royale one-sheet, I expect I will be seduced once again and take back everything I just said. )

You're not the only one frustrated!

Really? After the 'brilliant' effort that the US 1-Sheet of Die Another Day was?

To play devil's advocate here, what exactly does EON have to report? They don't have a Bond which most likely means they don't have anyone else beyond Dench signed, they don't have a finished screenplay, etc etc. I mean they could come out and say "No this isn't true," but what does that really accomplish? Everyday I see a thousand rumors on Bond - some plausible, some flat out BS, but every day it's a different story. I seem to recall them coming out and saying Brosnan was out and I seem to recall him doing the same, but now for like the billionth time since they stated this, he's back in the news as a possible contender. What good did stating as fact and on the record about Brosnan being out do? The truth: nothing. The media reports what it wants to report, whether its true, has some truth, or just that "flat out BS", I previously talked about.

I don't believe Broccoli and Wilson owe us anything. Heck, they don't even owe us another Bond film. I've no wish to see them become more "fan-friendly".

Whilst I applaud you on the final sentiment, I'm afraid I cannot agree with the rest of it. There may be a tenable argument about communication but suggesting that we "worship" Eon isn't the basis of it. I've never seen anyone around here do that, nor would I expect them to nor would I expect them to expect us to. I really can't see that Eon owes us anything and pretending that they do by trying to assert "worship" cannot credibly wash.
And as for the choice of the word "pain" - come on, now. We aren't getting much information about the twenty-first lot of much the same stuff again. Big deal. I appreciate that you're not seeking to dismiss genuine pain nor suggest that this "not getting information about yet another Bond film that'll end up on the telly in about three years' time anyway" is in any way equivalent but a sense of perspective about Eon doing the entirely proper thing in protecting their investment might be healthier.
And it's not really a case of not wanting us; it's one of not needing us.

Forgive me Eon. I'll lap up any crap you serve me like the slobbering fanboy dog that I am (unless you cast Orland Bloom or that creepy Croatian, in which case I'll be forced to become a Doctor Who fan).

Oh, I'm better today. I was just having an episode yesterday.

Every time I see Visnjic mentioned in a post of late, it seems he's being dissed. So is it just Bondian and me who think he might be quite good? (Sorry if I'm forgetting any of Visnjic's vocal supporters here.)

Ah, yes, I knew there had to be more than two of us on the good ship Visnjicforbond.
*Raises pint* Cheers, Ian, and ta for the Croatian apple crumble, Mrs V. Now, who else can we draw into the web of Goranology? Seannery, you interested?

Bond is not Star Trek. For better or for worse.
And from what a lot of the fans post on the websites, they do not deserve being treated with respect by Eon. The hugely personal and critical things I have read on a film that has not even started shooting yet, beggars belief.
Remember the huge negativity about Young Bond? And then the naysayers read it and went "That's really quite good"
IFP are in the business of publishing (successful) books.
Eon are in the business of producing (successful) films.
Let's leave them to it. We are not shareholders and they do not have to report to us.
Yes, it would be good if they could understand the benefits a well informed and postive fan community could bring to their product.
But we are but one hair on the tail of the dog that is the James Bond industry when it comes to a creative voice.
We can only vote with our wallets.
Now, is anyone going to cancel their Sideshow order?
Didn't think so.

I see you also mentioned becoming a Dr Who fan if Goran gets cast. Well, you'll have a much better time! Sure, you'll have a new Bond novel and comic book, but Who fans get a new full-cast audio play, two extra-packed DVD releases, a new novel and professional magazine (including comic strip) every month! That's not to mention the beautiful official website which talks to its fans, webcasts, games, theatre productions, large format books, comic strip collections, toys, conventions, fanzines, fan films etc. Oh, and a new big-budget TV series. Well, three new 13-part series and two Christmas specials. Bond fandom really is tiny, unrecognised and starved of material in comparison.
I visit an American Dr Who forum (also visited and posted on by many people who work on official Dr Who productions) and right now (at 12pm) there are 196 members online. There are 11 on here. Why would Eon or the IFP celebrate such a small fanbase?

I like Andy McNab, but I don't think he should do this. Andy would go too far into the proffesion which works with Nick Stone but not James. Andy's characters are colder.
Steve Alten is one of my picks. While he is an American author he has shown that he can write an intense plot, and keep the suspense going. In two of his novels you could easily add James Bond to the character list : The Trench, and Goliath. More so on Goliath. He's just starting to rise to stardom. And a sidenote his villians tend to have a Bondian element to them.
Michael Crichton said in his memoir Travels that Ian Fleming inspired his earlier novels like Binary. I think that Crichton could go back to his roots and write this.
Vince Flynn another author that has been rising though the ranks, but yet again another American.
Jeff Abbott is a new author that has been a fan of RObert Ludlum. He recently published Panic and it is his first Ludlum-esque novel. If he can go from mystery to Ludlum-esque I'm sure that he go from Ludlum to Fleming easily. Again another author who has a villian that is very Bondian.

I mean, there would be a lot of publicity about a 'lost' Geoffrey Jenkins novel appearing, as well as it being a 'lost' Bond story!
Crossing fingers!

Would be cool, but it's extremely doubtful.Personally, I'm hoping Per Fine Ounce finally gets issued, along with the Benson short stories and a new adult spy thriller.

All that is know so far is what's in the above CBn articles. When there's more news, it will be here.Is there anywhere I can search to find out more about a possible new "adult" James Bond novel? I'm really intrigued by this and would snatch it up in a heartbeat.

Yeah, it's taking me longer to finish than I thought.
