Just had a look at Qwerty's next "Looking Back" article on COLD, and, unfortunately, there isn't a positive review in the batch. But there must be someone out there that likes this final Gardner book. So if you're that person, how about sharing a positive comment or two about the book here. Unless this book really doesn't have any fans?

Give one to me and I might enjoy it :)

Cold Fall is an interesting finale to the Gardner cycle with some nice references to past books and a neat story structure that makes it stand out from the rest of the pack. I enjoyed the second half a little more than the first, particularly the last chapter when Bond leaves to meet with the new M. It's not the best Gardner novel but it's definitely one of the better ones in the later books.

Well I read COLD FALL yesterday and let me tell you, I liked it a lot. It had a diffrent feel then a lot of the novels, and that was a good thing.

I loved the division of two stories, the characters, and Bond preparing to meet the new M (plus the new relationship with the old M).

p.s. how do I get my signature to work?

It's been a long time since I've read the novel, but I remember it being very good and was certainly, IMO, one of Gardner's better Bond novels, probably just behind For Special Services, Icebreaker, and Scorpius as being one of my favorites.

I thought Cold Fall ('cause I'm American) was a great book, and it was the first Bond novel I ever read. Picked it up in a Salvation Army in Bowling Green, Ohio last spring.

I'm in the middle of Cold [Fall] right now - so far I am liking this portrayal of Bond best out of all of Gardner's. It seems to be moving a bit fast, and I do get the feeling - as I always do with G - that he's writing large chunks as if it's a chore. Half the time he doesn't seem terribly interested in his own backstory. I feel his pain, but it's not something terribly comforting to notice in a professional writer.

Currently halfway through it, so far one of Gardner's best

I love the line from that scene about how "garments from Victoria's Secret should be worn". Got a bit of a laugh out of then sixteen-year-old me.

I still like this book. Even after going back and finishing all the Flemings and everything, Cold Fall (yes, DARNIT, FALL!) is still in favor with me.

I just finished COLD the other day and really enjoyed it, different from Gardner's previous books with it being in 2 parts.
ended well, room for the next author to pick up from - the meeting with the new M.
