McAdams is Canadian not American. She is cute, yes, but she has the kooky glint in her eye that suggests she might not be all there. I can see her playing the troubled Vesper who is beginning to crack near the end. I just wonder if she do a British accent.

Stax do you buy my theory that the powers that be(probably especially Sony)want a name for Vesper to help with an untested Bond? That this search is causing the delay and the reason for Thandie and McAdams being brought up.

Yes, but McAdams is not a "name" per se. She's an "It" girl, an up and comer. Bottom line is you have to believe someone as seemingly cold and streetwise as Craig would fall and be duped by her. I could see McAdams screwing with his head.

McAdams is so beautiful that she could definitely screw with his head.

After hearing her name again today as a possible Vesper Lynd, I've got to say that, outside of Rose Byrne and couple of the other names that have been mentioned so far, McAdams would be right up there with them. I actually think that the cuteness factor would work quite well in her favor for the role of Vesper because I think that that would help her to be liked more (and I'm not trying to give up any major spoilers here, so mods if this isn't appropriate her, then delete it please) which would allow for the events of the novel to be a bit more shocking for the average movie viewer who has no knowledge of the CR source material.

Remember, Bond has to be able to believably fall in love with her, and I think that someone who gives off too much of a villainess vibe would make things a bit too obvious. I think that the innocence that McAdams has portrayed on screen up to this point is actually a good fit for the role of Vesper.

While I loved her in both Red Eye and Wedding Crashers, I think I'm more of a fan of Rose Byrne or Thandie Newton for Vesper.

McAdams is too 'cute'. Physically attractive, yes, but in my mind Vesper needs sort of a dark, beautiful, haunted look.

Agreed. She seems so innocent, she would be great. Someone dark and too exotic would be a dead giveaway, particularly after the betrayals from Miranda Frost and what's her name from TWINE.

I don't go over to the MI6.co.uk website often anymore, but I just went over there and they have a pretty good picture of Rachel McAdams that further convinces me that she would be a good Vesper Lynd.

After hearing too many goddamn actresses being confirmed by tabloids as Bond girls, but Rachel McAdams is hot. I like her in Mean Girls and Red Eye

She'd be an excellent choice... very good, well-rounded actress.

I think from some of the photos out there, she can do beautiful as well as being cute, which is the only thing people should be concerned about. Just really a matter of doing the proper makeup job on her.

She's an up and coming name who would draw some people into the theaters and yet shouldn't overshadow Craig.

I agree completely. I had been unsure about her before, but over the course of today, I'm convinced that she's one of the 2 best choices out there (Rose Byrne being the other).

I'm not a fan of Rachel McAdams. She doesn't have an exotic enough look to me, and just is too "cute". I want somebody who's a tad more imposing.

I'm no Thandie fan, but I'd take her over McAdams.

True though I consider McAdams an up and comer who is rather hot now and therefore a NAME that can be marketed especially when compared to others such as Rose who are almost completely unknown.

i can go either way on this. while i am completely in love with her, im not sure if she'll work in this film. she seems to be the kind of actress who desperately doenst want to get typecast, not to mention she is very good. give her a try i say.

Rachel McAdams is a terrific choice. Not a huge star but still known in the States. Since "The Wedding Crashers" and "Red Eye" I see her these days as America's favorite girl next door, like Julia Roberts in the beginning of her career. Participating in a Bond movie she'll be able to destroy her teen looks and mature her image. Give her a try. I think she'll be stupendous in the new Bond movie. I think it

One problem with McAdams - she's american. Vesper is English. I know it's entirely possible for her to put on the accent, but that can also go horribly wrong. I'd rather have a natural English girl... that's unless she's become a CIA agent ( I hope not - the way the story goes I think it works better if she and Bond are in the same organization).

The suits will probably want an American or American sounding person to help sell the film in that part of the world (according to Hollywood bigwigs, American audiences can't watch 'foreigners').

I wouldn't criticise Rachel McAdams as a choice, mind.

She's gorgeous and a decent actress, they could do a lot worse. I'm just not keen on either an American Vesper or a fake English accent.

Don't want to be a bitch, she's pretty enough but just far too ordinary looking to me, she could be my neighbour. Rose Byrne has a far more mysterious look, I hope she gets it.

Oh, I think as long as the actress was credible that being American would not be #1 on the priority list.

McAdams is actually Canadian, but I see your point about the English accent, though. I do think that she's a good enough actress to certainly pull off a credible British accent. If they can't get Rose Byrne, I hope that they sign McAdams.

How about McAdams as Moneypenny? I don't think she's really a "Bond girl" -- those are usually a little more exotic and dangerous -- but her likeable, girl-next-door persona is the perfect one for Moneypenny.

She is Canadian, as was the definitive Moneypenny, Lois Maxwell.

I guess she likely will be far too big a star to take such a part, but it'd really work perfectly if it somehow happened, IMO.

I just wonder if she can do a passable British accent.

That's what I was thinking as well. But all in all I would have no problem with her as Vesper. She really is a fine actress.

I think McAdams is TOO big right now for Casino Royale. Sony will not want someone so big that they will overshadow their new Bond.

She's about to explode. But truth is, there aren't many good roles for women these days in movies. Look at Jennifer Aniston, staring alongside Clive Owen in crapfests. Or Berry starring in Catwoman. I think she would be great in the role, because she does come across as so innocent.

I just don't picture her. First off my ideal Vesper, beyond looks, would have a sexy British accent. She doesn't have it. :D That said, I think she's real cute, but she's not really Vesper material. Not to say Vesper should be a knockout bombshell or something, but she shouldn't be so "cute" that you'd rather just cuddle up with her instead of ... well.. Anyhoo. The point is... too cute. Am I right? this should be taken as a semi-joke

I think EON would be better off hiring someone relatively unknown for the role.

What amazes me though is that Campbell said at thre press conference that the price tag for Casino Royale would be comparable to Die Another Day but everything we have heard seems to indicate that it's smaller scale (only one explosion, no $20 million-plus salary for Brozzer etc).

Reasons I'd like to see Rachel McAdams as Vesper

-As others have said, she's not too huge a star but on her way up enough for her to work (as opposed to Angelina Jolie, who many here have wanted to be in a Bond film) so her salary wouldn't be outrageous either and she's not an above-the-title name either. And she won't likely have equal status on the poster Halle Berry had.
-She could balance out the fairly unknown Craig the way Diana Rigg did with Lazenby in OHMSS, where she was coming off a hot television series but didn't overwhelm the new guy.
-McAdams can play sweet or bitchy and she's no stranger to action films as seen in the recent Red Eye.
-A lot of people are concerned because she's not British as Vesper is in the book. Who says she can't fake an accent or if the character will even be British.
-She'd bring in the female crowd as she likely has a lot of younger fans (The Notebook was a hit a couple years ago) and a few guys too, unlike, say, Denise Richards who primarily appeals to guys.

And lastly
-I actually sat through The Notebook because I was drawn to her. And I don't usually sit through chick flicks.
So she gets my vote as Vesper.
