Yes, I'm bummed it's only 5% off. I pre-ordered The Golden Ghost now because it shows 30% off (pre-ordering locks in the discount). Not sure if CS was every discounted this much, but from now on I pre-order when I see a substantial discount.

I've bundled this with my Blood Fever to save on shipping, but this means I'll have to wait until after the 5th. Not sure I can wait that long. Really looking forward to this.

Agreed. I should go ahead and pre-order The Golden Ghost now as well, 30% off seems to be as much as these Titan collections see.

Colonel Sun final cover art, courtesy of our friends at Titan. Have to say I think this is an odd choice of illustration to use -- Bond turning away?

Ther is one little thing that has me concerned about the up comming "Col. Sun", and I don't know how many other people out there had this problem, except for a couple of other book stores (like mine) but out of a case of 100 copies of "The Spy Who Loved Me" 17 of our copies had loose covers and it was even worse with "Goldfinger"! I hope this trend does not continue with Titan. It's a pain in the butt have to return them for decent copies. Not to mention disappointed readers! Anyone else noticed a problem with Titan's printing?

I actually think I like that cover, zen. It works with the girl (and whatever that other guy is going) facing the other way.

I read it yesterday, but didn't quite like it as much as the previous ones.

It is not that they are bad, it is that they are uninspired. River of Death seems to include all the elements of Bond, but for some reason it seems as if it is recipe written. No really interesting villain, nothing really new in the climax scene...

Colonel Sun is definitely better. Still the climax was not as effective as it should (and could) be. The characters worked in the beginning but lost interest towards the end. Colonel Sun himself was remarkable in no way whatsoever.

Of course, Horak is a superb artist and delivered up to his high standards. Still I did't get the feeling I got from his previous works, but maybe it is only because I 'm starting to get used to his style, whereas when I first read TMWTGG it was probably the first strip cartoon I had read.

As a sidenote, I really enjoyed the greek used in the text. It is really as close to real greek as possible (with a few exceptions). By the way, not having read the book, is the name of the island Vrakonisi in the novel as well? I am sure there is some mistake, it should have been either vrahonisi (rocky island) or Drakonisi (dragon island). Vrakonisi means panties island, which is not a very probable name for any place, even though there are places in Greece with stupid names...

I was a little worried when I started reading The Harpies before, but it turned out well. I hope the original stories from now on (as in River of Death in this case) turn out good as well. Can't wait to get this!

Got mine via Amazon UK on Christmas Eve (my present to myself!).

Have read CS and the story disappointed me from what I can recall of reading the Amis book. Then again, its spurred me to re-read the novel at once...

The quality of the strips is OK and of course it features Horak's Bond which, IMO, is one of the best representations in any visual form.

Have not got round to River of Death. Like many, I'm dubious about non-Fleming orginials (excluding Amis, of course) and did not buy the re-issued Spy Who Loved me so have not seen the Harpies. And now I've got all teh Flemings and CS in Daily Express form I'm not sure whether I'll get any more, either.

Another thing I noticed yesterday, when I reread CS: in strip 1233, Ariadne calls Bond "khrisi mou", which means "my golden one" but is referred to women, and it is the cliche name people call gays in Greece in a mocking manner. Does she know anything we don't, or is it just a mistake?

All in all, I appreciated CS more the second time. If it was a little less complex towards the end, and the climax scene was more interesting, with a better charactirisation of Sun himself, it would have been great.

Read my copy - very good. I was impressed with the Colonel Sun strip, but will need to read the Amis novel soon to do a true comparison between the two.

Probably out of topic - but is the Amis novel available from anywhere at the moment (other than used)?

I've had Colonel Sun for about a month now, and for the most part I enjoyed it, except for the very ending scenes. Looked liked ala Thunderball that it just suddenly ended. I don't want to put in any spoilers, so I'll leave it at that. Anyone else notice it?
