anyway, back on the subject of Roger Moore in Curse of the Pink Panther. i think Moore did a stand-up (fall-down) job, and he definitely provided the best laughs of the whole movie. i was thinking maybe what they should've done is they should have used the first half of Trail of the Pink Panther, up until Clouseau disappeared, cut out the entire second half of that movie, then show Dreyfus picking Sleigh to find Clouseau, give us a few minutes of Sleigh's bumbling, and then have the ending of Curse of the Pink Panther, with Roger Moore and David Niven and all that. maybe someday i'll try to edit it together to show what i mean. i could call it Cursed Trail of the Pink Panther, or Trailing the Cursed Pink Panther, or something like that. what do you think?!
Great idea....you should suggest it to Blofelds Cat (the one who put together an EON-ized version of Never Say Never Again).

you know, that's not a bad idea! he did an excellent job with that one! i confess i previously despised NSNA, but while i still didn't love it in the newer version, i at least learned to appreciate it somewhat more (which was the whole point of the exercise, no?).Great idea....you should suggest it to Blofelds Cat (the one who put together an EON-ized version of Never Say Never Again).anyway, back on the subject of Roger Moore in Curse of the Pink Panther. i think Moore did a stand-up (fall-down) job, and he definitely provided the best laughs of the whole movie. i was thinking maybe what they should've done is they should have used the first half of Trail of the Pink Panther, up until Clouseau disappeared, cut out the entire second half of that movie, then show Dreyfus picking Sleigh to find Clouseau, give us a few minutes of Sleigh's bumbling, and then have the ending of Curse of the Pink Panther, with Roger Moore and David Niven and all that. maybe someday i'll try to edit it together to show what i mean. i could call it Cursed Trail of the Pink Panther, or Trailing the Cursed Pink Panther, or something like that. what do you think?!
ah, those were the days, weren't they?! that's why i hate it when trailers show too much of the movie. i almost wish i could just be referred to movies by word-of-mouth, with a brief synopsis that didn't give away any of the big points, you know? for instance, with Curse of the Pink Panther, all i needed to know was "Inspector Clouseau is still missing after the events of Trail of the Pink Panther, and another bumbling idiot is sent to track him down". if you can do a trailer that doesn't give away all the good moments, that's fine, but if you can't, this is all i want.Being a big Panther fan, I was shocked and pleasantly surprised when Roger appeared onscreen as Clouseau, I saw this one the day it opened, in those pre-Internet days when a secret could be kept

Roger is OK. Poor guy, as if taking over from Connery wasn't challenge enough.
Don't forget that he wasn't the first actor to portray Simon Templar either
My favorite Saint was George Sanders. Out of curiosity, does anyone know if Tom Conway ever played The Saint? He certainly looked the part in "I Walked With a Zombie," and "Cat People." Ian Ogilvy was the blandest of all. We can thank our lucky gonads that he never got to play Bond. Although I always wondered what it would've been like if Lewis Collins got the part.

Me too....Lewis Collins certainly won pretty much every poll carried out in the UK in 1986 as the best person to play 007 after Roger Moore.

i dunno, that's kinda hard for me to imagine. i've always liked Cleese, but i just can't picture him as Clouseau. maybe if i heard his attempt at the accent, that might help.Actually back in the 80's, I always hoped they would bring back Inspecter Clousseau in the person of John Cleese. He has that silly French accent, and a body that could be both stiff and rubbery at the same time, like his minister of silly walks.

i think Moore did a better job for Curse, though, than anyone else could have been expected to do, given the circumstances.
