Oddjob from Goldfinger and Jaws from The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker are two of the best known henchmen from the James Bond series. Which do you think is better known by the public and/or Bond fans in general and why?

Also, which of the two is your favorite and why?

I think Oddjob is the celeb.
I think he had more recognizable look and scenes.
(like the one in the Golf club where he demonstrats his hat, Jaws had nothing beside his teeth)

And I prefer Oddjob because he wasn't destoryed by not-so-funny jokes and dumb scenes (MOONRAKER for exemple). Whene you see Oddjob's face and expression you know his evil.
In my opinion, Jaws wasn't used right.
When I see him I begin to laugh- he just looks like an idiot and an incompetent henchman.

Hard one to pin down, especially given the movies came out in different decades. They are probably the two best known henchmen, that's for sure. My guess would be that Jaws is the more recognisable, due to his teeth.

Oddjob is my favourite of the two, his fight with Bond in Fort Knox is amazing - he seems unstoppable. Jaws should have his due, though, as his physical presence with Moore's Bond made him very intimidating - e.g. in the carnival scene in Moonraker (before it gets silly).

Jaws would be better known these days because Richard Kiel is still alive and atends various signings and conventions that keeps alive his character.

In addition, Jaws gets more viewing time by virtual of being in two Bond movies.

Jaws is probably the current favorite due to Everything or Nothing...Oddjob probably was about the time that "Random Task" tried to attack Austin Powers with a shoe...

Who will emerge in popular culture next?

It may depend on generations. Oddjob is big with the older generation while younger ones will likely remember Jaws. Probably Jaws has the edge, also due to the fact he shares a name with one of the most successful thrillers of all time.

I think it's Jaws who seems to be more known or at least more often mentioned now.

Jaws is the better known of the two. I always here people talk about Jaws as their favorite. Of course Jaws also has the advantage of having appeared in two movies. Richard Kiel is also still appearing in movies and had quite a career in the mid to late 1970s.

Personally though I prefer Oddjob. I think Oddjob set the mold.in many ways, but as far as who is better known that has to be Jaws.

I'd think Jaws would be more well known among the 18-39 set, with Oddjob taking the title amongst the 40 and over crowd.

Personally, I will always consider Oddjob to be the prototype action movie henchman. He unnerved me when I first saw Goldfinger at age 8. And the fight with Bond in Fort Knox is an all-time cinema moment.

To be fair, I consider Jaws to be a top notch character as well, at least in his original incarnation. He unnerved me when I first watched TSWLM in 1977. And it worked in MR, until he bit the cable, and then met Dolly. After that, it was too farcical.

I'd have to say Oddjob is only slightly ahead of Jaws ath the moment, mostly due to the character of Random Task from 'them Powers movies. Funny part is, most of the young punks who see Austin Powers before Goldfinger are half-expecting Oddjob to actually throw his shoe.

The fact that everyone wants to be Oddjob when they play GoldenEye 64 Multiplayer also helps.

Oddjob was a villain. Jaws was a cartoon.

So, my vote is for Oddjob.

I think Jaws also got more screen time in TSWLM. I'd say it's a toss up, especially if you disregard the last 30 minutes of Moonraker.

This is a tough one but I'd say Jaws is more well known.

Oddjob is my favorite because he is a classic villain.

I went for Oddjob. It seems that everyone knows him more than Jaws, cause he's got the famous bowler-hat and Jaws... well, he has jaws! Not that they're any less-distinct than Oddjob's hat, but everyone always seems to like Oddjob better, and he's always the one everyone's always talking about. Well, in my area, anyway. I don't know if it's different in America or in the UK, etc.

Jaws is my favourite. I never liked Oddjob, and I really wanted Bond to kick his :). It felt delightfully evil seeing that little man get shocked by the electrified steel bars his hat was wedged in; the downside of having a steel-rimmed hat. Then again, steel teeth were never the greatest advantage for Jaws; remember when Bond used a hyper-magnet in The Spy Who Loved Me to drop him into a shark-infested pool? But hey, steel teeth are still better than a steel-rimmed bowler hat! When was the last time Oddjob ever got a girlfriend??? :)

The other reason I like Jaws better in a James Bond movie is because his presence is always amusing in every scene that he is in. I remember watching The Spy Who Loved Me and always being like, "where's Jaws? Where's Jaws?". Then I see a man walking in the distance, and I'm hoping it's Jaws; and then the camera shows you it's just Roger Moore as James Bond. Dammit! :)
Then I see Jaws, and I'm like "yeah!"
Jaws also got the benefit of going into outer space. Did Oddjob ever go into space? NeeoupE! :)
Jaws is also tougher than Oddjob; he lasted two films (not counting Everything or Nothing that :)), whereas Oddjob only lasted one. Stupid fool... electrified by a stupid steel gate! JAWS would have know better! I mean, he BIT that freaggin' shark!!!

Your missing the point (as usual). The thread is asking who is better known, not who was the better henchperson.

I prefer Oddjob too as a character, but I had to vote for Jaws because I believe he is better known.

I think that Jaws is the better known of the two, mainly because he was a more unusual character than Odd Job (I would think you'd have less of a chance of finding a 7'+ tall man with metal teeth than you would a relatively normal man like Odd Job). Also, the fact that Jaws was the more recent of the two henchman is also a reason that he is better known, because more people have probably seen the two movies that he was in.
