Perhaps not as young as Eon wants for the next James Bond... but being at the age of 38 he seems to me like he could be perfect for the role.

This is John Barrowman (www.johnbarrowman.com)

Bond... James Bond.

(now I have 3 men I have my eyes on for the next Bond. John Barrowman, Hugh Jackman and Matthew MacFadyen)

Has a bit of Tom Cruise about him on that pic. Probably too old for EON, but I wouldn't cry.

Excellent find Athena, and I agree with you. :)

His looks like Tim Dalton mixed with Hugh Grant. :)

*grumble* 38 is so perfect to me as in the age for Bond. I really hope somehow Eon changes their mind about a "young" Bond.

Excellent find Athena, and I agree with you.  :)

He's the first guy I've seen since Brosnan who's leapt out at me in that oh so Bond fashion. That 007 light bulb just went off in my head -- John Barrowman is now my first choice, pushing Jackman down to my 2nd choice. I'm hypnotized like I was when I first discovered Brosnan.

...not so known...

Perhaps that's one of the 'keys' right now to landing the Bond role.

I agree 100%.

My original first choice was Jackman, then Goran, but now this chap has got my juices flowing ( no, not that way :) ).

Cheers,
Ian

Not sure about his accent (he is Scottish originally and can, I believe, get it working if he needs to, but he naturally speaks with a Chicago accent), and all those people who objected to Rupert Everett will find a similar basis to reject Barrowman (work it out), but he's doing very well for himself in Doctor Who at the moment.

I hadn't twigged that that was John Barrowman in Dr Who. I'd thought he was just a musical theatre guy. And yes, he appears to be openly gay with a long term partner.

Not for me. He romanced "Rose Tyler" in Dr Who and he's played the romantic lead on stage often enough.

I think it would be all over the press, but I have no issue with it. As long as it's not made into an issue. The problem is: the media would make it into an issue, probably a running issue, which could overshadow the movie(s).

The character he plays in Doctor Who is promiscuously bisexual, which means that he hits on anything that moves! Which is rather fun and works surprisingly well in a family show!

I don't think sexual preference would be an issue with the general public, although it might inform the producers' decision.

But as for Barrowman himself, he's too sanguine and rosy-cheeked, and not very imposing at all. He looks kind of like Conan O'Brien or Toby Stephens. I'd prefer someone with harder, darker features. And no dimples.

His acting calibre is also questionable. Most of his credits are for musicals. The rest seem to be soap operas and other low-budget fare (Megalodon, Titans). He seems way too young and inexperienced.

Athena he has Bond good looks and i'm not convinced Eon will end up going young ultimately with Judy Dench back so his age probably isn't a stumbling block BUT I just don't think Eon will choose an openly gay actor(which I assume he is from the comments above) to portray alpha male hound dog 007. The contradiction would be so stark as to always be in the forefront when trying to establish his identification with 007 and PR for Bond. It doesn't matter to me but I don't think Eon would make that jump.

John Barrowman is also a huge musical theater star. He has a cameo role in the new "Producers" movie coming out in December singing "Springtime for Hitler." Here's some recent stuff:

He looks a little too much like a Ken doll for my liking, although when you go to his web page http://www.johnbarrowman.com/ and click on galleries and "Chicago" the picture that pops up looks pretty damn Bondian.

Unfortunately, as much as I would like to believe that my fellow men and women could transcend such issues as a person's sexuality and accept an actor in a role because of his talent, let's be honest ... the press would have a field day!

I love this guy in Doctor Who, and it doesn't bother me in the least that he's gay (back in 87 I wondered if maybe the unmarried Dalton was gay). My bigger problem is he looks and acts SO much like Tom Cruise. It works in Doctor Who because I think he's playing a sort of Tom Cruise-like self-absorbed mega "American." But I think it would drive me nuts as Bond.

Well, I don't know if he'd make a good Bond, but I can definitely see John Barrowman in a Bond movie. Maybe as a CIA operative (maybe a new Felix Leiter).

Barrowman's gayness WILL be an issue with Bond fans, like it or not. Bond is a total womanizer and I doubt that Bond fans will forget that. His bed scenes will always come off as phoney for the audiences who are aware of his gayness.

BTW, if a relative unknown is the direction, may I remind you all of one Gary Stretch?

Wow, that guy absolutely looks like James Bond! :)

Great find! :) But I guess it's not all about the looks; I'll need to see him act, first!

Out of curiosity, is he from the UK?
