I saw a pretty good looking 'Lience Renewed' at an old bookshop today. It was a hardcover with a dust jacket.I'd say its condition is about 98% perfect, just a tiny bit of wear at the top a bottom of the jacket. The inside says "First published in 1981, this edition published 1981". The front cover looks like this...

and the back cover has a cool picture of Gardner standing in front of a portrait of Ian Fleming.

The price is $22, should I get it, keeping in mind I already have a paperback of the novel ? I have no idea whats good and what isn't in terms of book covers and editions or whatever, can someone help me out ?

It being Gardner's first, is that the reason why he had the cover art like Fleming's? He may not have, but the designers in that case? Does anyone know?

Yes. You'll find the first 5 Gardner books have Fleming or Richard Chopping-like cover art.

I don't remeber Scorpius, I'm not sure if I've even read it yet. I just know I thought it sounded like a good name for a villain and used it for my e-mail address.
If I have read it then it must not have been too memorable.

$22 is a very good price for a LR first edition in such good condition. But beware, this could start you on a first edition collection. :)

Which isn't a bad thing...if you have the money :)

I've got the same copy. I picked it up at a Car Boot sale for 50p - what a bargain!

Great, thanks all, I might just get it.

I think I've spotted a Scorpious one too, for about the same price.

No problem. Can you get picture of the Scorpius hard cover jacket?

Here's the UK jacket.

If anyone ever needs to see what a certian jacket looks like email me. I have them all scanned into my computer (but please don't ask me for all of them).

Is Scorpius any good? I've got License Renewed here, but I haven't started it yet. Should I? Is it worth reading?
