That's the accepted wisdom, but I prefer the film. However, I concede that that might be because the Hammer version is the one I'm used to.

Time for me to re-watch the original, perhaps.

The Hammer one is the version I grew up with. I think it still stands up now. It's a genuine classic in my book.

But with the serial, you get a greater sense of the "haunted house" supernatural element and with the ending the theme of "inside us all theres a genocidal racist trying to get out" comes through more strongly. Both endings are genuinely unsettling but I find the BBC version stronger, perhaps because theres a more obvious link to the war years.

Great list, Harms. I love 2001, and I find Lawrence of Arabia an incredible piece of story telling.

Rosemary's Baby is one of the greatest horror films ever made. Torturous scenes without a drop of blood.

Glad you approve. I'm very surprised that BREATHLESS hasn't shown up on more lists, though. It's one of my favorite films.
