JAMES BOND 007 as a pinball game did not share the success of the famous British agent in the movies. Gottlieb gave the game a time limit instead of regular 3 or 5-ball play, which actually suits the game's theme very well, with the players trying to complete targets and gain additional playing time as the clock counts down. Players though were used to 3 or 5 ball play and before Gottlieb could release replacement software allowing the usual number of balls per game, this Bond died. It must have been disappointing for Gottlieb to get such a great license and then to see it flop due to the implementation of a creative idea.
The game is actually not a bad player, and with some skillful shooting of the spot and remo-trip drop-targets to keep time on the clock, it's possible to really stretch out a game.
JAMES BOND 007 was licensed from the movie "Moonraker" and the game's artwork features Roger Moore as 007, and images taken directly from the movie poster, including "Drax" the evil mastermind and "Jaws", the huge steel-toothed henchman. Bond's submersible Lotus Esprit and a fleet of space shuttles round off the rather undistinguished artwork.
