Anybody find this interesting? I didn't realize that Roger Moore was 50 years old in The Spy Who Loved Me.

Most people don't realize that Roger Moore is actually older than Sean Connery. Interesting that back in the day they went with the right man for the job, regardless of age. Gee, what a concept. :)

Actually take Roger's age and subtract one year. Because all his films were relased before he turned that age. For example he turned 46 in October of '73. And LALD was released in June. So yea.

I have a graph floating around in the forums somewhere showing the age timeline of each actor.

He looked fine all until Octopussy and A View To A Kill, where it became more noticeable IMO.

Yeah, he looks perfectly servicable in FYEO and then an old hag in OP. Poor bugger. I think this is an appropriate juncture to insert a comment about 'they should have picked Dalton' :)

I thought Roger didn't look too different between FYEO and OP, but aged quite a bit by AVTAK. As for the time line, I'd probably subtract a year for each actor as Connery, Moore, Laz's, and PB's are later in the year. I think Connery was 31 when Dr No began shooting, and had turned 32 by the time it was released. Some sources point out TD's birth in 1944, where others say 1946. I've always believed it was 46 as it was often acknowledged he was 40 when Daylights was in production.

Yes, I thought Moore looked older in Octopussy and AVTAK.

In FYEO, he looks really old and world-weary right at the beginning, at Tracy's grave. He really looks like an old British spy on the verge of retiring, yet in the scenes in Corfu, he looks younger and fresher.

Roger Moore got away with his age amazingly, really! There was something about his later era that still works, in spite of his age . . . even because of his age!

As a child in the early-mid-eighties, the Bonds that I was aware of being released were Octopussy and A View to a Kill.

The kissing put us all off at that age, but, when it came to action scenes and one-liners, Roger was a god to all of us. Anyone who had a AVTAK digital watch that bleeped the Bond theme was an object of envy.

We knew there'd been a guy called Sean (most kids pronounced it 'Seen') Connery and my first Bond on TV had been OHMSS, but there was a sense of silliness that really appealed to me about the likes of AVTAK. It's definitely a guilty pleasure! To this day, I don't letter Roger's age worry me, watching those films. They're part of the fun of the films.

Oh . . . and incidentally, my favourite Bond is Timothy Dalton, which shows I like Bond in in most forms. Didn't get on so well with Brozza's stuff. Liked him - a kind of hybrid Moore and Dalton - just didn't like the films so much!

It still amazes me that Moore was 46 in LALD. I hope I age as gracefully...
