Michael G. Wilson Talks 'Casino Royale'
Confirmed: Prague, South Africa, early 2006 shooting

It seems Michael Wilson confirmed a few Bond details when he gave a speech to his alma mater.

"Without naming the questions, he gave this answer: "I don't know which actor; Jan. 17; Oct. 19, 2006; Aston Martin; "Casino Royale'; Martin Campbell; Prague and South Africa; yes, Judi Dench will be back; and no, Halle Berry won't reprise, but I'd love to make another film with her."

"To translate for non-Bond fans: who will play Bond; when does filming begin; when's it coming out; which car will Bond drive; what's the title; who's the director; where are the locations; who will play M.; and is Jinx in it."

This is a bit worrying if Wilson's comments are accurate.

Eon wants to start filming in over six months time and they still don't know who should be Bond? Brosnan was told he wasn't wanted back at the end of 2003/early 2004. So what has Eon been doing for a year and a half?

Casino Royale out in October 2006? Die Another Day came out in November 2002.

Campbell said it's a younger Bond on his first or early mission so Dench as M makes no sense (as all CBn posters know).

I fear Casino Royale could be a mess with a rushed production. When are they going to find and sign the new Bond - December, January 2006?

The whole saga is a bit of a mess.

:)

So, Mickey, you expect us to believe that with just 8 months to go before shooting starts you do not know who Bond will be. Is this:

A) Because you do know and are playing with us (for what end?)
:) REALLY don't know because no-one wants the part
C) You really are driving the franchise into the ground and you don't have Cubby's business savy?

Advise accordingly.

What doesn't exactly make sense about this is October 19 is listed as the release date. That's a Thursday, unless that's the premiere date. Movies normally premiere on Fridays or occasionally Wednesdays with the exception of Christmas day.

Michael G. Wilson Talks 'Casino Royale'
Confirmed: Prague, South Africa, early 2006 shooting

Written by Tim Roth (18 May, 2005, 13:59)

Variety has revised its article claiming Casino Royale would begin filming in "Summer 2006"; the article now reads "early 2006". Therefore, yesterday's speculation about Bond 21 to be pushed to 2007 now seems meaningless.

Meanwhile, as the Daily Bulletin reports, Michael G. Wilson has come out with some real facts. Speaking to Harvey Mudd students on the weekend about photography, Wilson said: "I know that many of you have questions about the next James Bond film. I generally get asked the same questions wherever I go. I've found that nine answers will take care of most of those questions."

He then went on and said, without naming the questions: "I don't know which actor; January 17; October 19, 2006; Aston Martin; 'Casino Royale'; Martin Campbell; Prague and South Africa; yes, Judi Dench will be back; and no, Halle Berry won't reprise, but I'd love to make another film with her."

This means:

no actor for the role of James Bond casted yet
start of shooting: January 17, 2006
either end of shooting or release date: October 19, 2006
Bond will again be driving an Aston Martin car
the film will be called Casino Royale
Martin Campbell will be the director
locations will be Prague and South Africa
Judi Dench will reprise her role as 'M'
Jinx will not be back
While most of the now confirmed facts are not news to CBn readers, two points have to be looked at more precise: South Africa and October 19, 2006.

South Africa was one of the first rumours surrounding Bond 21; CBn first had an article on it in July 2003. Later, insider "Pierce-B" from Absolutely James Bond claimed that South Africa and Liverpool were being scouted by EON. Nothing more was heard about it until today.

While Wilson gave only very precise replies, the only vague thing he talked about remains "October 19, 2006." Will it be the release date for Casino Royale or will this date only mark the final day of shooting? Previously it has been reported that the film will be released on November 17, 2006.

Sadly, all other questions were blocked. Wilson admitted it's more fun to talk about photography than about Bond, in part because there's less pressure. Nobody's blogging about the Wilson Centre for Photography. "I live in a fishbowl," Wilson said. "You can't have a casual remark. So I am somewhat guarded speaking about Bond."

Very true.

SOOOOO, FINALLY!!!!

Okay, no Bond yet. But the rubbish about Bond in 2007 can be forgotten. October 19, 2006, I guess, will be the date on which CR will be finished so that the release date in November can be met. And quite frankly, they have to meet the date. Because the good will of the audience IS still a factor.

I was really hoping for shooting in some nice French seaside casino (do any still exist?). But Prague and South Africa are certainly intriguing!

If they have a new actor, I'd be keen on a teaser set in the tropics. It would harken back to the early days, with an in-shape actor in swim trunks taking on baddies and ending up with a bikini-clad babe in his arms.

That Dench definitely will be back(unfortunately for one who was never a big fan of her casting in Bond) tells me that either Brosnan will be back OR the new Bond will be a regular mature late 30 something or 40 something actor--NO beginner Bond(say YES!!).

I think that, "When will it be released?" would be a far more common question that "When does filming end?", so I would assume (HUGE RISK ALERT!) that he is talking either about the release date or the premier date being Oct 19th.

If it starts filming in January and ends in October, that's nine months of filming - I don't think it would take that long, would it? And then don't forget you have post-production, which is usually quite a few months - if it ends filming in October, no way it would be released in November IMO.

Today's correction in Variety and the Michael Wilson talk really shows us we shouldn't jump to conclusions without official announcements EVEN if it comes from good sources such as Variety(delay my foot!). We either know or don't know--as for belief or second hand sources or reportage they can be interesting but ultimately :) :)

I can see a release date in October...but it seems a little strange since its not a very busy month for movies with hardly any tentpole releases to pull casual viewers over to 007.

Only thing that worries me about what Michael Wilson had to say is that South Africa and Prague are in fact the locations, which means that they're not staying faithful to the locations in the book, which would be Southern France. I would go on about what else bothered me in the interview, but I don't want to be ridiculed again for more "baseless negativity". :)

As Bond said in Diamonds Are Forever, " Well I've always fancied a trip to South Africa! " This is indeed great news! And to have Oct. '06 as a possible release date? *puts on Mr. Burns voice* Excellent!

It's just "oh happy days" with no more Bond delays, soon a James Bond actor announcement and a Bond movie within our sights. I could have easily survived another delay BUT it's so great it didn't come to that. Glad to see the story of delay was bull(verify everything!). It's a good day :)

I guess the fact that Dench is confirmed means that Brosnan will come back for a final mission. And he should.

I think we can safely assume that the Fleming book has been discarded with the use of South Africa and Prague. Sure the torture scene and the final line will be there and maybe some of the characters, but the rest has been tossed.

Thats not surprising....when is the last time EON really faithfully adapted a Fleming book?

Yet another case of people taking news way too literally. Just because he only mentioned two locations, doesn't mean there can't be a third. The Oct. 19 date does seem odd, but we all that those can change as well.

Additionally, whoever wrote this is just assuming that he was referring to a release date. For all we know, the release could still be set for November, and October is just when they are finally going to announce the actor! :)

What I think is ironic is that Wilson cites NINE questions that everyone asks...he omitted the 10th, which would be "Is it Pierce?"...they still won't denounce the possibility of a comeback. These guys love drama.

Thats hardly true. remember Brosnan priced himself out of the role.

I don't think the fact they haven't cast anyone yet is a biggie. Remember in BACK TO THE FUTURE they replaced the lead actor while the movie was shooting. (i'm sure there are a gazillion other examples but thats the one that comes to mind right away).

Dench + Casino Royale = The Typical Mature Bond(regardless if it's Pierce or not)
