The US editions of all of these are a breeze to get. Just the UK's to work on now. I'm going for the Gardner's first, and will then tackle the Benson's UK's.

Strange...I have had no problems picking up the US hardcovers. In just three days I have ordered all six of Bensons original Bond novels. All told all six hardcovers only set me back less than $30 and thats including shipping.

Probably rthe hardest one to find is DOUBLESHOT but I still managed to track it down on Amazon Marketplace.

I know we're supposed to be talking about Benson's here, but what (with the obvious exception of Cold and Licence To Kill) UK Gardner's would you say are the most difficult to track down Zen? I have seven of the sixteen now.

Most of my Gardners are back at my family home in the UK though from DEATH IS FOREVER onwards are all US editions.

Ah, the problem regarding SeaFire for me is not so much the price, but just finding one.

I'd like to hear about your experince in tracking down U.S. editions of the later Gardner books.

Fortunately I got the first edition US paperbacks for all the Benson novels.

Oh, the US editions are a breeze! I've got a US hardcover and paperback for SeaFire - I mean that finding the UK hardcover of it is difficult as you say.

I've found all the US paperbacks for Gardner, and more than half of the US hardcovers. I've just put those on hold because 1) I want to concentrate on the UK 1st's and 2) they'll still be around and cheap later.

As far as the Gardner novels go, a few years ago I was able to get ahold of the US hardcovers of Scorpiusand Cold Fire for a farily low price at the uded bookstore at the library near my place. I almost grabbed a hardcover of TMWTRT used but I really prefer to buy paperbakc in general.

See, I just purchased all six Benson's for the price it would have taken to buy The Man With The Red Tattoo when it first came out.

I actually had that Playboy 99' issue with "A Midsummer's Night's Doom" in it a few years ago. Then then before I moved to my new house, I decided to go through my magazines and threw away the issue...though I forgot the story was in it!

Indeeed. I see the US 1st's now in second-hand bookstores for $4.

It's definately worth shopping around. For another example Amazon lists Colonel Sun as starting a little over $17, but on another site it starts at $1.

Actually I noticed some Fleming first editions going for really low proces and others that were in the $1,000s.

Certainly agreed. Octopussy & The Living Daylights seems to often be much more than firsts of the previous two when I've seen them on eBay.

For clarification, does "out of print" simply mean that the books are no longer being printed, or that all the printed books to date have been distributed and sold by retailers?

Also, in reference to "The hardcover first edition of Tomorrow Never Dies, for example, sells for $300 and up" comment in the article, would early copies of the UK Coronet's first print-run of the paperback be a collectors item mainly due to the title page indicating that Nicholas Meyer, David Campbell Wilson and Daniel Petrir Jr also contributed to the screenplay?

Depends on which one. I just got a UK 1st of The Man With The Red Tattoo for about 22 USD. Others like Zero Minus Ten and Doubleshot are ones I see for quite a bit more.
