Come to think of it I really don't know the true answer as to why SMERSH hasn't been refrenced into the films before. Possibly because SMERSH was still in operation in the sixties and Eon productions didn't really want some kind of scandal involving the Russian government?
I could be overthinking? But f someone here knows or might have a better clue feel free to join in.
But think about it: Since the inception of the new Russian intellegence, known as the FSB, perhaps a small sub section (HA! betcha thought I was gonna say Splinter) are watching and taking names...with a certain British 00 agent right at the top of the list? Besides, Russia might want to settle an old score.
Well anyways..it could be possible.
(However if there's a certain american NSA agent..they'll never find me...er, him.
