I loved him in that movie. He could without a doubt be Bond.

Agreed with you Qwerty! I thought he was great in Bourne Identity, though I kept getting him mixed up with the other two actors in the film who looked like him, ie Eamon the guy with the farm and the guy who shoots Conklin at the end of the movie.

Okay, it's Owen frenzy time. Here are some pictures I find particularly Bondian:

Posted Image

Here's a classic.

Posted Image

Obviously the costume isn't Bondian, but his face is.

Posted Image

Likewise with this one: his face is very Bondish.

Posted Image

He has a tuxedo--so I guess it's Bondian.

Posted Image

This one reminds me of Brosnan at the end of GoldenEye, when he's dressed in his "business casual".

Posted Image

Here's a collage of Bondian pictures.

Posted Image

This one strikes me as particularly Bondian, in a Conneryesque vein.

Posted Image

A little squished, but how can you not want this man to be Bond?

Uh, I'd post a Clive one, but it's a little "au naturale." I don't think he'd have a problem doing bedroom scenes. :) :)

If you lose the glasses there, he looks like James Bond. He's going to be great, and I can't wait for them to announce him and get us some of those press release photos of him actually as James Bond. Can't wait!

I'd say even with the glasses, he looks like Bond. Very sophisticated.

Owen looks better in motion than static pictures. I saw 'Closer' the other day and I thought he made Jude Law look rather unremarkable. Really.

I'm going to be seeing that soon. Not often you get two top Bond contenders in starring roles in the same film I'd guess.

I just got done watching Closer for the first time in its entirety. (Before, I'd only seen a couple of short scenes that had Clive in them). He blew the other actors away and definitely earned that Oscar nomination. I thought he should have won after seeing the entire movie. He will be amazing as James Bond and I can't wait for Casino Royale to come out.

Sure I love the idea, he could be one of the best 007s, but I just don't want to be tragically surprised by EON... :)

Yes, a fantastic Bondian pose.

Especially in the dark, brooding mold that Owenites seem to want with his take on Bond.

At this point, I can't imagine that Owen isn't in some sort of negotiations (and I have a feeling that he may have wrapped them up). His comment about "being busy" seemed kind of cathartic, as though he wanted desperately to say something, but couldn't make a direct statement.

I have no doubt that Owen will be Bond in Casino Royale. I just can't see it playing out any other way, despite his comments on Charlie Rose, etc. He seems to be saying "I know I'm going to be Bond, you know I'm going to be Bond, so let's not jinx it."

^^^ Nice pictures but will there ever be an (official) Rambo 4...?
If that's the case, then I can't think of anyone better than Clive Owen to play John Rambo. This man both act, talk, move and look like Sylvester Stallone and would fit the role perfectly.

Now, show me some Bond contenders.

:) Nicely said. And I was dancing around about my doubts about Owen's "Bond" qualities.

When shooting a rifle, it is not a stretch to be wearing glasses. Protects one's eyes from powder and lead shavings and whatnot.

Also, his finger is off the trigger, as it should be, when not immediately engaging ne'er-do-wells.

Ex.: Dalton when he has the Walther rifle in Bratislava at the beginning of TLD.

Hopefully Clive comes to his senses and realizes the opportunities that Bond would afford him, if in fact he is in the running for the role. Yes, he's a great actor, but the role that he is on right now seems to be one of those "flavor of the month" type of things that will die down eventually. By playing Bond, he might be typcast for a while like Connery was, but he will be able to overcome it and do the "varied" and "interesting" work that he seems so desperate for. Plus, doing Bond would give him greater visibility (let's face it, nobody outside of the hardcore Bond fans are talking about Sin City being the new Clive Owen film, rather they're saying it's the new Bruce Willis film). The visibility that he would get by playing Bond would afford him opportunities for other types of roles, as it did for Connery following his tenure as Bond.

After the scare we've had today as far as new Bond rumors, I think most fans can agree that Owen is better than Craig, regardless of whether or not you think Owen would be a good Bond or not. I will say this, though. I'm sure that Daniel Craig is a good guy and a quality actor, and I don't want it to sound as though I'm personally attacking him, because I'm not. From the little I've seen of him in films, he does seem to be a very capable actor, but he just isn't Bond material. He would make a great Bond villian, henchman, or possible ally in an upcoming film, but he just doesn't look the part for the role. I would, however, like to see him pop up in a future Bond film in another capacity, however.

After seeing Owen display some screen presence in "King Arthur" he shot all the way up to 2nd in my list of next-Bond favorites. Hugh Jackman is still far and away my first choice. In view of today's rather strong Daniel Craig rumor, however, I'm more than willing to accept Owen as Bond. As for comparison to a former Bond, I think he looks like a rather poor hybrid of Lazenby and Connery. But he is a hell of a lot more Bond than Vladimir Putin Craig.
