They should definitely make Casino Royale as close to the novel as possible. Maybe they could add a little bit of a subplot since the main plotline of the novel really isn't enough to make a full length film out of, but they definitely should keep the novel completely intact in the movie.

Is a faithful Fleming adaptation a wise move?

If what is said is correct, that the PCS will be the longest yet in the series, most of Casino Royale could be used in there alone. At least up to when his assignment is complete (after that it's just a dreary love story really).

Wouldn't be suprised if they film the whole thing, dreary love story and all. Most of it is Bond's "inner monologue". Then not have SMERSH/ WHOever kill LeChieffe but Bond go after him at the point where the novel concludes. Just a thought. Good stepping stone to the 3rd act.

I just hope that a faithful adaptation means the return of Felix. That's all I'm sayin'.

Alot of you are overthinking that an invincible Bond would be cool. I differ.
The problem is that I want a mix of both. I want a Bond who can overcome but he has to go thru hell to do so. What's wrong with that? The notion of seeing James Bond constantly unbreakable does get old very fast. Put the humanity back into the character. Give him life and some emotion! But for god's sake don't make him a powderpuff ninny. (Bronsan)

I think those of us who like Fleming's work and would like to see more of it on-screen are in a little bit of a quandry.
On the one hand, we definitely would like to see Fleming material actually used again in the movies, and not just in the extremely faint way tiny bits of MR were used in DAD (and I mean TINY bits there). A faithful adaptation would be a very nice change of pace (even from a Roger Moore / DAF loving moron like me
).
On the other hand . . .
-In CR, Bond gets the tar beaten out of him. This would be the third movie in a row where we see Bond get tortured. This is not really a strong objection for me, since Fleming was always having Bond get totured, but it's still an objection.
-This will be the second film in the past three where Bond has a really serious relationship and then gets betrayed. Will his relationship with Vesper be the slightest bit believable when Elektra was just two films before?
-Purvis and Wade are at the word processor again. I actually like their work on TWINE, but DAD was simply awful - one of the worst films I have ever seen - and they certainly were "faithful to Fleming in that film when the script filmed, weren't they? Can we really be sure that we'll have much more than the title and the torture scene left over from Fleming when all's said and done? That's not really an adaptation. Now, I don't wouldn't care if the movie was unfaithful to the book if it were as entertaining as DAF was, but I have no hope for such sophistication here, even with the redoutable Campbell at the helm. The movies simply haven't been much "fun" since TLD. Some have been quite good (GE, TWINE), but not quite fun.
