Well, I think I was just curious. Who is this Frank Sinatra guy? I purchased one of the CD's and really liked the music. The songs seemed to be touch close to home. Then I was getting involved with a lady and I bought some more CD's to "pump me up". I don't know. Just one of my random purchases.
In buying tickets to David Copperfield I noticed that the Rat Pack was coming to town. So, I bought those tickets too.
Actually, my date thought that they were really racist. Making fun of Sammy alot. But the show was still a great time. She liked it, and so did I.
And if Bond is not in my CD player you can bet it's a Sinatra CD.

Count me in as a Rat Pack fan -- Bond would love them.
Actually, it's only as an adult that I've grown to love Sinatra, Dean Martin et al. as singers. Growing up, they were of my mom's generation and I thought they were all so boring and square -- tho I enjoyed Martin's variety show and his movies. Sinatra's too. I always loved Sinatra's movies. Do any of you realize what a great, natural actor Sinatra was? He hated rehearsing and never really needed to. He just "did it." I love him in FROM HERE TO ETERNITY, A HOLE IN THE HEAD, THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM, THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, VON RYAN'S EXPRESS, SUDDENLY and YOUNG AT HEART.
I love reading about all the colorful stories they were involved in. They were great talents, great entertainers and very funny. What I love most about Sinatra is his diction and control of the language as he sings. Clarity in singing is a lost art.
Oh, btw, that schtick that Martin used all the time -- holding a drink in his hand constantly -- was mostly just a schtick. Most of the time there was just water or juice in the glass.
As for Sinatra's rendition of Girl From Ipanema, it's good but I much prefer the original version in Portuguese.
There are those who complain about how Vegas has turned into this Disneyesque dumbed down family-friendly place, and miss the days when tough guys and mafia types ruled the town together with the Rat Pack. I certainly don't want the return of the mafia but I sympathize with the sentiment -- Vegas sounded like a much more interesting town back then.

Hi Daniel,
I'm a little late posting this...I've alway's liked these three Guy's since I was knee high to a grasshopper.
I put this kind of music into 'lounge' music which is my favourite sort of music.
It's amazing the quality of sound that Sammy Davis made, especially when he doesn't really look as if he can sing.
Great Thread Daniel,
All the best,
Cheers,
Ian

Jaelle:
Ditto on the Sinatra movies. Add to that list Guys n' Dolls, Robin and the 7 Hoods, None But the Brave, Ocean's Eleven....
With the Kennedy ties, it's interesting that Sinatra's best movie, and one of the best movies of all time (Manchurian Candidate) had a delayed release of 20 years here because of the Kennedy assassination.

"Oh, this is a gag, I don't drink anymore. I freeze it now and eat it like a popsicle!"-Dean Martin.
How can you not like a group of guys that counts Matt Helm & Tony Rome as members?
Actually, the Manchurian Candidate was released in the 60's. After Kennedy was assassinated, Frank put in on ice for 20 years.

Hey Saint, thanks for saying that last bit on The Manchurian Candidate. That's what I thought too, and you confirmed it for me.

...But as a child of the 80s, I meant its video release. Thinking about it now, and knowing when VCRs came out, I feel pretty dumb.
It's still a damn good movie though. I'm not sure how the Denzel-as-Frank remake will be, though.

I love the original "Candidate" and I think the Denzel remake could be very, very good.
