Geoffrey Palmer, the Admiral whatisface in TND, should be the new M.
Gruff, naval, male - back to the Messervey of old.
Cool idea there, Simon. Rather surprised I've never read this suggestion before, what with all the fan debates over Admirals Messervy and Hargreaves and whether they're one and the same. Making Roebuck M (or, at least, making the actor who played Roebuck M, giving birth to future "Isn't he supposed to be....?" discussions) would be a great move, with precedent in the series thanks to the casting of Robert Brown; what's more, Palmer would be a terrific choice.
As for Dench, I'm wildly hoping that her involvement in CASINO ROYALE means that Clive Owen will be Bond (I know you won't share that hope, Simon

So, because Dame Judi IS M, does this mean that the PCS IS a flashback or that there'll be flashforwards somewhere in the first third/half of the movie!?
I've just been over to AJB, and Pierce-B is saying that there may be more than one actor playing Bond in CASINO ROYALE. Make of that what you will.

"I know exactly where to put that."I've just been over to AJB, and Pierce-B is saying that there may be more than one actor playing Bond in CASINO ROYALE. Make of that what you will.

Personally I don't believe one word Pierce-B says. I'm afraid this is not gonna make me change my mind.

...I'm neither for nor against Judi's return. The only thing that I ever questioned was she's always drinking on duty. Seems a little strange.
It goes with the part. Bernard Hill used to do the same.

And drinking, in moderation, on the job is an English thing...one drink won't turn you into a pile of jelly-it's an adult attitude to be able to do that unlike the hyper vigilant American approach to alcohol.

I'm beginning to suspect Pierce-B is either a nutball or an agent of misinformation. God help the poor folks over a AJB who buy this.

Bernard Hill hasn't become M yet! He's the King Of Rohan in LOTR...but I know who you mean...funny, I can't recall his name either...Bernard lee? Anyone?

D'OH!

Of course you're right: Bernard Lee it is...

If Dench is indeed coming back then their goal clearly is to confuse people.
But of course it is! They already achieved it with me. Remember what they said about the DAD internet rumours on the DVD? I'm sure they took measures to find out about those leaks. Spreading a few rumours here and there to see which way the news goes. And as an extra, they're now pokin' fun on us by letting out semi-official statments and confuse the hell out of us.
I've been smelling red herrings since Campbell spoke out, those informations don't seem to fit. Whenever I try to make it out, I get strange ideas - and I don't like those. Long forgotten names come to my mind... oh please, no Bobby Ewing or Michael Knight (don't dare mentioning Judge Dredd or Robocop).
Back to Fleming? Maybe the YOLT/TMWTGG novel transition...? ...hmm...
Interesting speculation Stromberg--the intentional spreading of disinformation could explain the phenomena of Pierce-B at AJB. Perhaps he could be in on disinforming OR maybe being fed faulty info without him knowing. BUT of course if it ends up with a young Bond pre-titles and then Clive Owen as present day Bond then he would be the man. BUT at this point it would be silly to have blind faith in him or anyone else for that matter. BUT of course if Michael Wilson calls me i'll take him at his word

I love Geoffrey Palmer, and he'd be an improvement on Dench - but I think he's still wrong. He's not really that gruff - he's a lovely old buffer who's going to 'slam in the lamb' (an ad he did in the UK many years ago). Not sure I could really believe the ruthless side of him. He'd be a much better Q, in my opinion. He always plays slightly eccentric confused kindly Englishmen. It was already quite cool that he played opposite Dench in a Bond film, as the two of them starred in the romantic sitcom AS TIME GOES BY together.
Bring back Edward Fox. He's younger than Dench, he's done it before (and would make a nice little link to the 'unofficial Bond' in one crafty move), and he'd be very believable as both a fatherly old buffer to Bond and the ruthless-when-needed protector of Britain's interests.

For me, the return of Sir Miles Messervy is essential to the Fleming-ian Bond. A strong an intelligent Moneypenny, played (as an operations chief immediately below M) by someone like Julia Stiles from Bourne would weigh in well for the ladies.
The Q-branch scenes should have Major Boothroyd in charge, played by someone who actually seems to be a soldier. Keep the scenes brief and ditch the cliches. Cleese was awful in the role.
More than anything, this half-cocked approach to the new Bond film could de-rail it badly! God help us, we could end up with a piece of crap like GoldenEye again!
