Hey gang! CBn has scored a major interview with SilverFin/Young Bond author Charlie Higson!

It's a long interview, so while Mr. Asterix works his magic making it look great, here's a bit of cool news as a teaser.

This IS indeed excellent news John :) , and I cannot believe there's been no response to this thread. :)

I bet Charlie's been a member here for years, and one day he'll reveal his true identity. Let's hope it's not MooMoo. :) LOL

Congrats Cbn. :)

All the best,

Cheers,

Ian

Hehe...

Yes, you might find the interview somewhat revealing, Bondian. :)

It's a truly amazing interview. I'm soooo pleased with how candid he was and how much info he shared about the upcoming books. As far as I know, this will be THE FIRST real, in-depth interview with Higson about Young Bond anywhere.

But on topic...Book 2 sounds very cool! :)

I've still got read a Fleming first otherwise Qwerty's going to remove my living privileges. :)

It would be interesting to know if Charlie's going to write another Randall and Hopkirk (deceased) series too?.

I'll read Silverfin very soon. :)

Well done again CBn.

Cheers,

Ian

We planned to do it over the phone, but the time difference between LA and the UK made this tricky, so I ended up just emailing him the questions. It's taken a few days to get them back and we've all been on pins and needles. I'm happy now we did it via email because it allowed him to give very complete answers, but it would have been fun to talk to him in person too.

That's very true John, and it's probably the most convenient way for both party's. :)

Very candid and very interesting. I enjoyed Silverfin when I first read it last November/December, I must say and I'm glad someone as knowledgeable as Higson is writing a series of novels that can be as tricky as these must be.

Thoroughly interesting. This guy really seems like he knows his stuff, and it's nice to finally hear the author's words on a book we've all been talking about for so long.

A very intelligent, and very, very funny fellow. Looking forward to the book more than I had been. I almost spat up my lime Diet Coke when he mentioned Silverhead and Silverfist :) .

I know Ann Fleming thought that Bond was humorless, so it would be nice for Mr. Higson to prove her wrong without going too far overboard.

I am also encouraged that IFP and Mr. Higson allowed the story to dictate its own length; I always felt that many of the Gardner's and Benson's lost their sense of pace trying to reach some mythical word/page count.

The one question I was interested in, that you touched on a bit with your adult Bond novel query, was if there was any buzz from the IFP, and naturally EON, about who would handle a film novelization for Casino Royale (that is, unless EON plans on doing a faithful adaption...yeah, right :) ). It seems like Higson could keep things light enough to make it work.

Great job, zencat!

...but I didn't want to go off an tangent about novelizations and other people's work (when I preparing the questions I thought I'd be doing this over the phone).

Yeah, it would have stood out. Plus, Benson, always made it sound like the films were more EON's bag, and that the IFP, and Benson's, involvement were more out of convenience, an afterthought, if you will. My guess is, if one gets done, it would be a last second deal.

It's funny that Higson's mention about being more interested in working on the script of a Bond film, was similar to Christoper Wood's response in a recent MI6 interview. Too bad, if there were to be an adaption, it would be great if one of these two gents could do it.

If I may say. :) To be honest, I didn't like the idea of a young Bond, nor did I think that Charlie could pull it off.

I'm going to make a sandwich, and eat my own words. :)

Cheers,

I. Fleming. :)

Great interview, Zencat (and great scoop!)

I wasn't really interested in this book to begin with but I'm now intrigued. He obviously knows his stuff and he's still pretty enthusiastic about it ... I just can't get used to the idea of Charlie Higson writing Bond books, though. One minute he's Bob Fleming, the next he's Ian Fleming ... it's bizarre. :)
