Pierce Brosnan to shoot his next movie in India

Hollywood star Pierce Brosnan, known for playing the famous character of James Bond, said on Monday that he would be shooting for his next movie in India.

"The shooting for my next movie would take place in Los Angeles, London and India", Brosnan told reporters at the launch function of a new range of watch at a south Mumbai multiplex.

Recalling his association with India, Brosnan said he had first come to the country nearly 15 years back to shoot for a movie by Ismail Merchant and said he enjoyed working with Shashi Kapoor and Saeed Jafferey. "It was my best movie", Brosnan said.

The Indian people have a "great sense of humour" which allows them to go on with the life, he said adding "they (Indians) are great people with a great culture".

Replying to a query whether it would be possible for the Indians to get into Hollywood, Brosnan said "the cross-pollination between Hollywood and Bollywood is getting closer" and added one needed to keep trying and work hard to achieve success.

Don't suppose this refers to The Topkapi Affair.

Guess he must be squeezing a movie in before that shoots.

He claims to be neither shaken nor stirred by his exit from one of the most successful sequels of films - the James Bond movies. Pierce Brosnan who played Ian Fleming's womanizing British spy in four films since 1995, says he has his hands full with other projects. CNBC-TV18 met Pierce Brosnan on his visit to Mumbai.

This was the last time Pierce Brosnan played the world's best known spy. Though the film raked in $425 million in worldwide ticket sales, making it the biggest ever Bond film, the actor and studio have now parted ways, supposedly over the star's asking price for the next Bond film.

Brosnan is now busy with his endorsements and doubling up as producer under his independent film banner, Irish DreamTime. In fact, the actor - producer is also looking at India as the setting for one of his next films.

Pierce Brosnan said, " We will be shooting in three places - LA, London and India. It has an Indian theme through it because Bollywood is so hot and there's this whole cross-pollination that's happening now."

On why did you choose to set up your own independent film production company and turn producer way back in 1996? Brosnan said, "Because Bond is such a big character to live with. How do you find work outside Bond. Nobody would've given me films like 'The Matador,' 'Thomas Crown Affair 2'. So when you have become a global name, you are a star, sometimes you need to create your own work."

Brosnan's latest production 'The Matador' featured at the Sundanace film festival and has been picked up by Miramax since.
