Brett...there you are

View Post

I missed you too Darren. :)

Managed to pick up a DVD of Rog's The Man Who Haunted Himself, Escape to Athena, the first 3 DVD boxed sets of The Saint, and The Persuaders DVD boxed set while in Oz (amongst many others).

Got to see them all in about 3 weeks too! :)

'Escape to Athena' is a great movie.

Was it the Region 2 DVD Brett? I snapped it up as soon as it was released in the UK. I like the way the actors are interviewed by their kids in the special features - different and revealing in many ways.

No extra features, just the movie. It cost only AUS$14 and was region 4 for Oz.

Same with TMWHH, which had a diferent cover to the one that's on file with DVD Profiler.

Ah yes. I picked up a Region 4 DVD of "Silver Bears" a couple of weeks back from an Australian online retailer.

EzyDVD and JB Hi-Fi have the cheapest DVDs in the marketplace (at least in Sydney they do), and EzyDVD have a website for ordering as well.

Just found this out after a search on the net....

The title credit to TMWHH says it's based on "The Case of Mr. Pelham" by Anthony Armstrong (which I knew from seeing the film), BUT the novel had previously been televised as an episode on "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" in 1955 as well.

EzyDVD are terrific. Highly recommended for buying Region 4 DVDs on-line [or in their stores].

JB Hifi are almost always cheaper, but EzyDVD has some great offers going [I got a free Die Another Day mousepad and a free copy of Roger Moore's Gold when I purchased Die Another Day on DVD].

Well, "Gold" is only selling for under $10 anyway, so not much of a give-away. :)

While ExyDVD are cheaper than the larger retailers, JB seem to stock more of the lesser known or older flick. I picked up 2 of the Harry Palmer's - "Funeral In Berlin" & "Billion Dollar Brain." But couldn't find "The Ipcress File" anywhere. :)

BTW Matt, the guy that started EzyDVD also started off VideoEzy, but he sold it off before getting into the DVD market.

Didn't know that, BC!

Yeah, I saw Gold at HMV once for about $3.95, I think.

Yeah, those two Harry Palmer flicks are also available on EzyDVD, but it doesn't look like The Ipcress File has ever been released on Region 4 DVD. At least, both an EzyDVD search nor an eBay.com.au search turned up nothing.

Cool. Thanks for letting me know about those two sites. I have always ordered Region 4 DVDs from EmpireDVD. I was pumped to find a copy of SILVER BEARS because that is one of my favorite 1970s movies (nostalgia is a powerful thing).

There are a number of DVDs only available in Region 4. I bought an old Region 4 release of CARAVAN TO VACCARES a few moths back as well as Richard Chamberlain's version of THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO

Incidently, Bond related (since this is a 007 site) - SILVER BEARS and MONTE CRISTO both featured Louis Jourdan (with the former also including Charles Gray) and VACCARES featured Michael Lonsdale.

Didn't realise that some movies are only R4. :)

And, I couldn't find CARAVAN (or some other Macleans I've been looking for) during the time I was in Sydney recently. :)

Well it makes a lot more sense than flying to Australia to pick up one DVD.

I do have family in Australia though so I guess I could get them to pick some up for me :)

I have to go to Oz every 6 months for visa requirements, so I generally buy up big while I'm there.

As well as collecting all the stuff I've got my Mum Or Dad to buy for me during the 6 month period I'm in Bali.

That's very odd. I think BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN is the only 1960s Harry Palmer not released here in the US.

MGM actually distributes the film here, and in the UK [and for the record, it was only released here last month].

No idea on the US distributor, though.

That's okay [dark] I have a region free player so releases in different countries are not an obstacle to me. :)
