OK, I guess I'm just lame. I've searched high and low for a post where Jim explains his reasons for not wanting Sam Jackson as a Bond villain. It was a very nice rumination on the effect Sam has on one while watching him in a movie. If anyone can locate the post, I'd be much obliged.

Imagine Samuel L Jackson with his shaved head, dark glasses and nehru jacket steepling his fangers at chest level and saying his characteristic deep voice. "Welcome to my island, Mister Bond." Out-frickin'-standing! Sammy L would be priceless as a Bond villian. He's already larger-than-life. I don't really think his popularity would hurt him. EON might dis him cause he plays the M-like character of Gibbons in the xXx series. But heck, he is soooo goood, they gotta give him a chance. So what if he was in Star Wars, xXx and the Incredibles, heck he was even Shaft. Samuel L Jackson has the power and presence to pull off a recurring villain, ala Blofeld over two or more movies. Now that would be worth seeing and might even put a punch in the box office, especially if EON's retooling Bond with a lesser known name as 007, like Julian McMahon, Clive Owen or Gerard Butler. Just add Michael Clark Duncan as his chief henchman. The great thing about Sammy L is you would believe him as the kind of maastermind who would sit in the arm chair pulling the strings making things happen on a global scale, you know, too cool to get his hands dirty. But when the time came, you'd beleive him duking it out with Bond. The dude has mad skilz!

Similar to the way that Liz Hurley won't be considered due to Austin Powers, I think Samuel being in xXx has screwed up his chances.
Funny, then, that some of the names being touted as the next Bond are Clive Owen, who appeared in THE BOURNE IDENTIY, Dougray Scott (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2), Daniel Craig (LARA CROFT:TOMB RAIDER), Hugh Jackman (SWORDFISH) and Rowan Atkinson (JOHNNY ENGLISH).
