I don't know if it's covered, but at the ski lift, right before Bond took off, the gentleman at the top (I guess the jump coordiator) looked at Bond's skis and something to him (in Italian?) in distress. Bond responded and pointed to something then went down the ski lift.

What did they say?

Not speaking Italian, this won't be a direct translation. But the chap was pointing out to Bond that he was using skis with fixed bindings on them as opposed to the hinged ones they are supposed to use. Presumeably, they are dangerous and certainly more difficult to ski down the jump in than the ones they're supposed to use. But not to Mr Bond.

And then Bond was just distracting the chap by getting him to look elsewhere while he took off.

Look at the two guys jumping off the slope, one has hinged bindings, the other has full-on ski boots.

Ever since I first saw this scene (that was in cinema when the movie was the newest Bond flick) I've been convinced that he says something about those skis.

But I became curious and checked out the DVD to see if it can be found on the subtitles. Even though there's subtitles for 10 different languages (no Italian among them), it's only in the Swedish (translated into Swedish, a language of which I only know a few words) and on the German one, but in Italian (local flavour, even in the subtitles ).

The guy actually says: "E tu, dove hai il casco?"

I don't speak Italian, but I'm not completely lost when reading it. This isn't a remark about the skis - this is even more obvious: "Hey you, where's your helmet?"

(Bond's response is "Guarda!" which I presume means something like "Look out!")

I always thought the mad guy was merely pointing out that Bond has ski's on his feet but not the thin pole things you carry in your hands.

Just translated it... it means


"and you, where you have the helmet"

Apart from the binding issue ski-jump skis are much longer and Bond had a standard set, which is clearly highlighted in the lift.

It always appeared to me as if the man was saying, "What the .... are you doing?"
