Not that I want him to be Bond, I don't. But I thought this picture was cool...

...and it made me think what if somehow he did become the next Bond... *shakes head*

Yeah Viggo is overrated, he does LOTR then follows it up with Hidalgo *shudder*. Viggo being Bond would be like the years when James Brolin was considered for the role. Bond should always be played by English type fellas (British, Scottish, Irish, Aussie, etc.), thats my thought anyways.

Overrated? Really? I didn't think that people thought much of him? Can't say that I think that he's in the A-list? B-list? C-list?

I never understood your dislike of Viggo Mortenson, Athena? Doesn't seem to me that he is much of anything.

Not to say that I dislike him. But I have to admit that I was never sold that he was Tolkien's Strider, heir of Isuldur. However, he seemed more than adequate as a dopey cowboy in Hidalgo or the Weapons Control Officer in Crimson Tide.

I liked Hildago! :) It's a damn fine film. But, No, I don't see Viggo as 007. He's cool though but too old and just not right for Bond.

I found Hildalgo to be a pretty well-rounded film, just save for it being slightly overlong. I don't want him for Bond 21 however.

I don't really have a dislike for him. I just think he's overrated because (guess it could be the people I'm hanging out with) I remember when all I heard was Viggo this and Viggo that -- when all I was thinking was he's an ok actor, but nothing too special, IMO. I have the same feelings about Orlando Bloom. Maybe it

I can't stand the Lord of the Rings films - yawnworthy shaggy dog stories - but I've enjoyed Mortensen's performances in The Indian Runner, A Perfect Murder and A Walk On the Moon. He's not really Bond material, but I've often thought he could make a good Quiller.

I don't think he's got the looks ... AND the voice!
And I thought Pierce whispered.

I mean, he's perfect for Aragorn, with the wig and the beard, but 007? No.

Viggo would make a good Felix Leiter.

Viggo was superb as the Heir of Isildur, his performance only outdone by that of Ian McKellen, Sean Astin, and the perfect casting of Scaramanga in the role of an eccentric but deadly guy who likes to play with high tech equipment to employ in a plan for world domination.

Viggo should never be Bond or even a villain, though. I just can't see it.

I liked him as Aragorn/Strider, but as James Bond I don't want to see him. No thanks. simple as that. :)

Maybe he'll be a good Villian. Actors who don't quite cut it as Bond, can be good villians.

Absolutely! Look at Gert Frobe!

But as for Viggo and LOTR, I love the LOTR films, particularly the extended versions. I think they put the new "and improved" Star Wars films to shame on every level. I don't think Vigs can carry a film, though. LOTR, for instance, is more than one character's story and more than one actor's film. To make it as Bond you have to have a superficial quality where your appearance on screen is magnetic...you command everyone's attention, and no one can steal the scene away from you. Timothy Dalton, for instance, got robbed in the bar scene in "Licence To Kill"...he was owned by Del Toro and Lowell in that scene. He didn't even need to be there. Can't have that.

I agree with you there. I can't see him as 007.
