And don't forget Cubby's Thalberg Award (presented to him by Roger Moore) in...'81 was it?

Nice article, Qwertmeister.

Ah yes, I'm sure one can keep finding numerous awards throughout the series. (I think it was either 1981 or 1982.) Thanks, Zen.

That would have to have been 1982. It was the same ceremony that had the spectaculor "For Your Eyes Only" performance with Sheena Easton, featuring Richard Kiel as Jaws and Harold Sakata as Odd Job. Ursula Andress was a presenter at the same awards.

A funny Oscar moment came when Roger Moore was asked to present the Oscar for Best Actor in 1973. The award went to Marlon Brando, who sent "Sacheen Littlefeather" to refuse the award. Moore gallantly offered it to her, and she held up her hand to reject it. Moore's eyebrows went up, and he shook his head to say "No?" He then kind of smirked, and stepped aside, wryly scratching his cheek with his index finger. I seem to remember reading stories about Moore keeping the Oscar for a while and making jokes about it, but who knows?

Everyone who was around remembers the year Connery won his Oscar for "The Untouchables"--he introduced himself saying, "my name is Connery...Sean Connery."

Another great Bond moment at the Oscars was when Roger Moore, Sean Connery, and Michael Caine presented the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 1989. Caine asked Moore who he was and replied, "My name is Bond..." and Caine replied, "Bond? He's Bond!" as he pointed to Connery. Connery looked at Moore (who had a beard) and said, "it's David Putnam!" (famous film producer who had a beard). The winner of the Oscar was Kevin Kline for "A Fish Called Wanda". He looked at the three men and remarked, "there's a lot of Brits here....scary." This was sort of in character with his role of Otto in Fish, alongside John Cleese.

I recall Timothy Dalton escorting Whoopi Goldberg to the Oscars one year. And years later Pierce Brosnan presented an Oscar for Best Costume design amid a group of models posing in some of the designs. Whoopi Goldberg (host that year) quipped, "why do models always look so pissed?"

I also think it's worth mentioning that a Bond fan named Scott McIsaac occasionally works on the Academy Awards (for all I know, he's on these boards under a code name like myself...). He's produced some of the video segments, including the memorial tributes that have featured Cubby Broccoli and Harry Saltzman. He added the gunbarrel logo in the corner of the picture to identify these men (and others) as being associated with the franchise.
