If I am recalling things correctly, during the early stages of Die Another Day production, it was reported that Halle Berry would be playing a villain in the film and Rosamund Pike would be playing a good Bond woman.

As we know, it turned out to be the opposite in the final film. Would you have preferred it if Halle Berry was an enemy in the film, such as the way Rosamund Pike finally was, and then vice versa for Rosamund Pike?

I don't think so. While I would have liked Rosamund to have more screen time, her playing an evil girl is a thill :)

:)

I'm agreed there, what would have been great is if she got even more screen time as an enemy.

I know a lot of people would disagree with what I'm about to say, citing on just how bad the movie was written/acted, whatever. But, if they switched roles, in my opinion, it would be one of the top 5 Bond movies. Halle Berry would be able to pull off a harder, evil Bond chick then the sweet, innocent Rosamund Pike.

I kinda agree with the above post. But if Halle Berry was the villian, she definelty wouldn't be any different compared to the Famke Jamnsen "Xenia". But I would have like to see Rosy Pike as the good one.

I thought Miss Pike was a superb Bond girl/villain, and definitely deserved more screen time. Her exotic beauty and sexy voice stole the show in my book - while Halle Berry seemed way off mark. Her performance was clunky and cliche - partly due to the clunky and cliche screenplay - but also due to her unconvincing delivery of her lines. I know she is admired as an actress by many, but I personally could have done without her character of Jinx altogether and devoted more screentime to Rosamund Pike. Too bad she was put on ice in DAD, I would have liked to see her character of Miranda Frost return in a future Bond film!

I may be missing the staggeringly obvious here, but why would two twists with two different characters as opposed to two twists with the same character (and, actually, I count only one twist with Frost) have made for a superior film? Why would the bad Jinx have killed Dr Alvarez? What would her connection to Moon have been? I mean, obviously, the filmmakers would have cobbled something together, just as they did with what we ended up seeing, but I'm not convinced that a Jinx/Frost switch was just what the doctor ordered to make DIE ANOTHER DAY a better movie.

I guess I'm somewhat on the fence when it comes to switching their roles, other than it may have given Rosamund Pike more screentime (and Jinx less dialogue), which would have been welcome in both cases. In all truthfulness, there is so much to DAD that I would have done differently, that switching the two female leads would be the least of my worries. I would have done away with 'Icarus' completely - making the 'dream machine' and the face-changing technology the centerpiece of the story. I guess I'm not the one to ask for an impartial analysis of this film, as I don't hold it in very high regard. Well, I hold the first hour in high regard, but as I've stated in other threads, the latter half of DAD is pure rubbish in my opinion.

Interesting comment, Zing! So you feel the whole attack on South Korea (then Japan) angle should've been scrapped all together? Afterall, Icarus was made for that purpose in the first place.

An interesting take on it. As Jinx seems to be one of the less favored James Bond women in the bunch, I wonder if she would have been more enjoyable to watch if she had played a villainess in the film, rather than the good Bond girl.

I could see Rosamund Pike both roles, either the villainess as she was, or the good Bond girl. I'm glad she was the femme fatale though because I thought her performance was terrific.

Yes, we all can say Rosamund was fantastic and basically the main reason people think they should swap is because Halle's wasn't up to par and people couldn't stand the over-publicity. Rosamund was great as she was and no one should mess with that.

Everyone can pretty much agree, I think, that the entire 'Icarus' idea was obviously borrowed from 'Diamonds Are Forever.' And just three Bond's ago we had a super weapon in space capable of delivering chaos to the world! I would not have scrapped the North Korea angle, but I think the story would have worked just as well if 'Icarus' was a giant, steam-rolling, super-tank of some kind that was capable of cutting a path through the minefield. Certainly it wouldn't be anymore fantastic than a super-satellite powered by diamonds - and might be more plausible when you consider just how much Graves accomplished in a little over a year's time.
