Bourne Franchise to Exceed Three Films?

"With the Jason Bourne franchise having earned over $500 million worldwide already, producer Frank Marshall tells MTV that he doesn't expect The Bourne Ultimatum to be the last film. The third film, again starring Matt Damon, is scheduled to start shooting on August 1st and is based on Robert Ludlum's last book in the series.

"It's kinda up to Matt [Damon]," Marshall said. "Maybe to five [films] ... At some point, he's gotta find out who he is."

"Ultimatum" will be directed by Paul Greengrass, who helmed the second installment, "Supremacy". The movie is expected to hit theaters in the summer of 2007.

Marshall added that Julia Stiles' character will "be a central character in this. So will Joan Allen and some of the other characters from the last movie."

"Ultimatum" will have two new villains, which haven't been cast yet. The plot of the book focused on an aging terrorist who targets Bourne, leading to his uneasy alliance with the KGB.

According to the producer, writers will be brought in to concoct storylines for life beyond "Ultimatum," with Damon's character discovering his true identity and resurrecting himself a few more times. - source: MTV"

Hoorah! Five Bourne films would make me a happy man (as long as they were five "quality" Bourne films).

An update on THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM, courtesy of Empire. Tom Stoppard has been involved in writing the script (along with Tony Gilroy), while director Paul Greengrass promises "a better car chase", "more exciting action", and "more intensity". He also has a few words about the return of James Bond in, as Empire puts it, "a grittier, younger form".

Great news, can't wait to see Ultimatium. Bourne delivers each time out, OO7's fallen short his last 3 at bat. CR looks to be putting an end to that.

Stunts and story, those are the two keys to great films in this series. Each film has had incredible stunt-work, with good car chases, fight scenes, and stuff like that. The story has been pretty good as well.

I know there are 4 books, 3 penned by Ludlum. I just hope a fifth installment isn't too contrived. Other than that, I look forward to it.

I'm really looking forward to this. I wonder if Nikki and Bourne will ever hook up...that would be interesting and definately a twist to the series.

A short roundup of Bourne news. Browsing Wikipedia, I learn that Eric Van Lustbader has announced a new continuation novel on his official site:

It's official! I'm writing the next Jason Bourne novel, which is tentatively titled, The Bourne Trajectory. I'm 2/3 of the way through the draft. It's tentatively scheduled for publication in the summer of 2007, but that's dependent on the release date of the third Bourne film, The Bourne Ultimatum, starring Matt Damon. Paul Greengrass, the director of The Bourne Supremacy will be back helming, which ensures another quality edge-of-your-seat thrillride.

Unsurprising that publication of the next novel will be scheduled around the release of THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM, even though the literary and film franchises are about as far apart as Higson's Young Bond saga and Eon's Craig series are in the world of 007! His endorsement of Greengrass sounds a little odd and unnecessary, and, frankly, inserted at someone's behest. Can't disagree with him, though. :P

Talking of MovieBourne, various film sites are carrying the rumour that Robin Williams is in the frame to play "someone very close to Bourne" in ULTIMATUM (gee, what could that be?). Although given the more recent reports that Williams has entered rehab for alcohol problems, perhaps his Bourne involvement is now, as Austin Powers might put it, a dead issue as opposed to a dad issue. :)

10 reasons why Bond will be Bourned :

1/ The "realistic" action and fight scenes with handeld camera will be cut by an epileptic editor, and impossible to follow

2/ There will be lots of surveillance camera shots and replay, as well as satellite images, as well as handeld camera shots of boards of office clerks getting into frenzy watching Bond kills someone or generate destruction on their desktop

3/ No CGI except for removing secutiry wires and such with handeld camera

4/ Lots of use of cell phones seen with handeld camera

5/ Bond will use several different passports shot with a handeld camera

6/ Foot chase shot with handeld camera

7/ Car chase where regular drivers cars will get smashed with handeld camera

8/ Bond will say I love you in the shower with handeld camera

9/ The director will say in interviews he have gone back to shot with handeld camera a lot

10/ Even the opening credits will be shot with handeld camera

PS move your head up and down while you read this, you will see less and less with handeld camera is better

I prefer a camera held between the testes. Or the feet.

What else are they going to hold a camera with?
