There goes any hope of seeing Peter Jackson making THE HOBBIT!

Plus all 007 movies will have to be really Japan-friendly if Sony takes over MGM. Maybe they'll make 007 a Japanese Secret agent :)

Looks like Sony has agreed "in principal" to buy MGM.

(But the way this story has gone, I'll wait until there's ink on the signature line.)

Yeah Sony is well known for removing anything remotely anti-Japanese from even classic movies.

I'm not sure how they will tackle, or what they will do about Mr. Osato in You Only Live Twice. In fact it makes me shudder just to think of the hatchet job Sony will probably do to that movie, if their past record is anything to go by!

You know...it just hit me...at the moment, I'm actually employed by Sony. :)

I guess that means I'm now part of the "family." :)

I'm waiting for my dinner invite, Babs. :)

They'll probably get George Lucas' visual effects geeks to digitally transform Osato into a white Englishman called Sir Percy Wrexham-Smythe or something suitably posh. :)

And now...TW is out.

I've UPDATED the main page article.

Does it all come down to Sony now? Will our time of indecision shortly come to a close now?

I guess it's now Sony or nothing. Could it be nothing? Or could this be the start of yet another two months of negotiations? :)

Gah!

Please, no.

Better buy the DVD of You Only Live Twice now if you don't already own it, because I'm sure that Sony will bury the movie if they get ownership over it. Having a Japanese character as one of the principal villains is probably more than Sony can handle. They've deep-sixed other classics for less!

I don't think they'd touch a select few films in a series.

Nah, they won't touch YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. Okay, so Osato is clearly a villain, but he's outnumbered by Japanese goodies.

Indeed, the film's attitude towards Japan is nothing short of worshipful. It portrays the country as a virtual paradise, spoiled only by meddling Western baddies like Blofeld.

However, if Sony owned Ridley Scott's BLACK RAIN....

From Variety...

Pullout would seem to throw the auction to the group led by Sony, but a source said a deal may or may not be reached today and that the situation is "fluid."

It ain't over 'till it's over.

I have to agree with Loomis on this one. I don't think they'll touch it, nor any of the other past Bond films.

As it looks like this is a done deal, I did a big main page story with all the details and I'll ask to move this conversation HERE.

Thanks. :)
