If James Bond is british, we all know UA first then MGM are US companies. But what is the nationality of EON? Is it US or GB? As Broccoli was american and Saltzman was canadian, I wonder if Bond movies are US or GB movies

For a small fee you can obtain copies of their last published accounts [could make interesting reading! But as a private company they don't have to file very much of anything] - all companies have to file a certain amount of detail. You'll notice that the next return date for company information is tomorrow, 25 August. This may yet coincide with a release of "other information" - well, it could do...maybe...

NB For those not in the know, "Registered Office" does not mean it's their office; likely to be their lawyer or accountant. For what it's worth, their address appears to be:-

Eon House
138 Piccadilly
London
W1J 7NR

Telephone and fax
Tel: (020) 7493 7953
Fax: (020) 7408 1236

Don't bother ringing. And certainly don't bother faxing "my great idea for a Bond film". If they wanted to get in touch with you, they would have already done so.

Not too sure what the list is meant to signify, other than for a British registered company [or, more precisely, one registered in England and Wales] it generally is cheaper for tax reasons to employ the British.

Eon is a "British" company; as the Bond production company, however tenuous it may seem, these are "British films".

Sort of.

Ish.

It's really all terribly complicated. But that's how I guess they would want it.

Terence Young = China
Ted Moore = South Africa
Guy Hamilton = France

Young may have been born in China, but he certainly wasn't Chinese, any more than George Orwell was Indian. Similarly, I doubt that Hamilton would have self-identified as a Frenchman. Basically, what I'm driving at is that these guys were Brits. Dunno about Moore, though - might have been a South African for all I know (or care).

Guy Hamilton lives in France....I think he has lived in France pretty much since the early 1970s. The British government recognizes someones citizenship for life though (even if you renounce it) so Hamilton still had to leave The Spy Who Loved Me and SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE.

Not sure if Hamilton considers himself British or French.

Actually, Hamilton lives in Spain. If I was at home I could tell you exactly where, but I do know he lives in Spain. I'm not sure when he moved there, but he's lived there for many years by now. Connery has a home just down the way from him.

Christopher Wood lives in France, though.

I think, I THINK, Young was of Irish parentage, not being rude. :)

Suppose it depends what you define as British. :) :)

Oh I see.

It's interesting with Terence Young and China however. I wonder the amount of traveling those names mentioned above have done.

You know, it's interesting that Purvis & Wade's films are often accused of being Americanized when they are -- with the exception of Roald Dahl -- the only British screenwriters the Bond franchise has ever had?

It's a kinda transatlantic relationship. :)

I was wondering that myself, Triton. So Danjaq is the holding company? I thought they were the one's who held all of the copyrights and what not. Anyway, I'm not sure that Danjaq being Swiss would make Eon Swiss as well, anymore than Aston Martin being owned by Ford makes Aston Martin American.

Interestingly enough, there is ANOTHER "secret" company above Danjaq, LLC. I can't think of me for the life of me what is called or where it's registered at.

The only reason Danjaq is registered in Switzerland is because so they can keep their financial records private, I believe.

Danjac is registered in Switzerland. I believe it has just one employee in that country, an accountant. Eon is a film production company, and although British. is a subsidiary of Danjac.

Danjac owns the rights to make James Bond films and is owned 50% by the Broccoli family and 50% by MGM. It was formed in 1962 by Broccolli and Saltzman. Saltzman sold his 50% holding to UA in 1975 when he hit financial problems.
