We must all agree that A View To A Kill by Duran Duran was the best Bond song of them all

No. We must not all agree. This is still a democracy, even if Bush gets re-elected. :)

I think it's a great Bond song and it's in my top 5 but it's not my favorite.

I still prefer:

FYEO
LALD
MR

:)

Yes, democracy, all that crap, yada yada yada... :)

*Takes a sip from glass of water*

Anyway, I'm not saying we should all agree or else I will go panzer on any disagreer's butt. I'm just saying...

C'maan! C'maan! :) Let's face it! C'maan!

About your list:

FYEO= Agreed
LALD= Agreed
MR=WTF? Don't get me started! Don't even remind me!

I actually don't think it's bad, Qwerty, but *gulp* ...here goes... when I was eight, I used to sing that song, and sometimes my mom made me sing it when company came. I was a boy soprano- you must understand!

No we musn't. Not me, anyway.

I'm with Q on this. Bassey all the way. :)

A great choice. While trying to stay on topic on Bond music, is her songs overall or just Goldfinger?

Miss Bassey's songs overall, but Goldfinger is my absolute favourite Bond song either way. DAF and MR aren't too shabby. The remixes of GF and DAF are pretty good, too.

I didn't see AVTAK till the fall in a $2 theater so I had heard that Duran Duran song a million times on the radio and was already sick of it when I saw the movie...I did like it again after watching it comliment the credits. It's a great song, absolutely! :)

Ah yes! Goldfinger got it great with the Propellerheads, and Diamonds Are Forever got three or so I believe on her Remix album.

I like the AVTAK song best as well. What makes it so good to me is the mix of synth and orchestra.

I agree. That song is so upbeat, whereas songs like Moonraker, I find, would put me to sleep. The rock-beat songs started in Moore's era with Live And Let Die.

Well it's not the intention of that song to be rock.

Although I really like the AVTAK song, it's not what I think of as a great Bond song. I just don't associate Rock music with James Bond. In my narrow and jaundiced view, Bond would never listen to Rock music. I think 007 would much rather spin a Shirley Bassey album than anything by Simon and the boys.
And this view is coming from someone who grew up during Duran Duran's commercial peak...I still like "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Rio", reminds me of summer...

Live and Let Die and A View to a Kill are great songs. But the ballads like Moonraker and For Your Eyes Only are just as well too.

MR and FYEO works as film themes but I wouldn't listen to them otherwise.

I never grew up in their greatest era (80's). I was born in 1990. I actually first heard of them from A View To A Kill! But what can I say? I love their music! I have their greatest hits album, and I kid you not, every one of their songs on that CD are good. But I don't like "Wild Boys". :)

For Your Eyes Only gets more radio time than A View To A Kill I'd say.

I can't really comment that cause I don't how it is where you live and where I live. :)

But I'm pretty sure that I've heard AVTAK more times on the radio than FYEO.

That's the impression I've gotten from many fans. The point I'm really making is such songs, like For Your Eyes Only do work well outside of the Bond film. :)

Well, it's the only Bond song to have became a standard and to have a life outside the movie. It's certainly the most covered of all Bond songs.

AVTAK is one of my favorite songs in Bond. I happen to like the TND song better, along with the John Barry Orchestra in OHMSS.

Oh I would. Many of the songs work great in and out of the films. These two do IMO, you don't think so?

I grew up with a Shirley Bassey loving mom, so it's hard to go against GF- the quintessential Bond song- but AVTAK must be a great song...because it's so hard to understand what it's about, and the title is awkward, but they managed to use it.

I don't really like the A View To A Kill song. I don't like all the "straffing" music heard between verses. Very grating to my ears. Liked the nusic vid though. Quite amusing.

Here is a thread that may interest you: Who do the AVTAK lyrics mean?
