Apart from the gun-barrel opening, probably the next most likely thing to make my hairs stand on end in the cinema.

And now my question...

Would folks prefer just the words "JAMES BOND WILL RETURN" at the end of the movie, as we've had since TLD, or would you rather they decided the title of Bond 21 now, and had "JAMES BOND WILL RETURN IN CASINO ROYALE" (for the sake of argument).

I can see arguments for both sides:

"JAMES BOND WILL RETURN" does feel cooler somehow, shorter, snappier, and the way they did it for TWINE (at the start of the end credits with Arnold's kick-:) music) for me was actually more exciting that some of the action sequences in the main film. It works because its simple.

"...WILL RETURN IN FINAL ASSIGNMENT BEYOND THE ICE MOON", however, would certainly save us all the speculation about the name that has used up so much bandwith and server space in the last 6 months. It also whets the appetite so much more than a bare statement. It's like a spoiler right there, teasing you to come back next time. It also gives a greater feel of continuity to the series.

So there's my twopenn'orth, as you may have guessed I'm undecided, but interested to hear what other folks think....

It was a great move to have the "James Bond will Return" before the credits...especially with such a huge gap between TWINE and Bond 20 people really needed reminding that he would! I think it definitely works with fast songs at the end credits but would also give a fab ending if it faded at the start of an end credits slow song. It's the perfect place to have it. Just imagine "The Experience Of Love" or whatever the Serra song in GE was called (I think I'm right) with "James Bond will return fading in over the helicopter flying off... that would've made the ending far less of an anti-climax and far more of a whistful ending. As I said putting those four words before the credits is perfect!

I think that showing the title at the end of the titles, shows that the producers have confidence in themselves, and they know what they are going to do and that they will do it.

All this business with no title is dragging on a bit too long.
They've probably decided to return to the tradition and so are thinking up titles for the next eight movies! :-D

The TWINE "James Bond Will Return" and then the kick :) music, and the the credits - was one of the highlights for me! Arnold sure know how to whip up the emotion at the end and let you leave the theatre on a high.

If they return to revealing the next title, then I think its should be right at the end after the credits, rewarding those who stay for the whole end credits. :)

Also, I think moving the "James Bond Will Return" to the head of the credits as they did in TWINE was a GREAT idea! Let's hope they keep it this way.

Absolutely! I remember how disappointing it was when at the end of AVTAK all that came up was "James Bond Will Return." I would love it if they somehow went back to naming the next movie, but seeing how they can't even find a name for a movie that's already a month into production, I don't see how it's possible (unless they started doing the Gardner/Benson books, but that makes too much sense :)).

Here's an idea. How about, for the 40th Anniversary DVD/VHS releases, they go back and change the end credits on all the movies from AVTAK and up to reflect history? In other words, it will now read "The End of A View To A Kill. But James Bond Will Return in The Living Daylights." Is this a good idea?

Absolutely!!!!! I would love to see a classic one like this:-

The end of "Black Sun"
But...
James Bond Will Return In...
"Everything Or Nothing"

or something to that effect.

This is yet another aspect of what makes Bond movies unique -- the bookends of having the gun barrel at the beginning and "James Bond will return" at the end. I've always made whoever I see the movies with in the theater stay until the end. It just wouldn't be a Bond experience without it. While it would be great if they will tack on the name of the next film, it really is just wishful thinking. I mean, they're a month into filming and don't even have a title yet. I'll stick with what most of the rest have said -- a great ending song and that legend "James Bond will return."

I'm one of those credit watchers that stays seated until the curtains start to close. In any case, I'm not fussed if that phrase appears before or after the credits.

As long as it appears. If it doesn't, I will automatically assume that there won't be a next Bond movie.

I'm the same BC. But when I went to see TWINE, I wanted to stay to listen to the whole of Arnold's music. But, my Dad got up and started leaving so I had to got too. Well, I've got it on DVD now and I can stay till the end of the credits without the ushers telling me to leave. Now, my little brother is a different matter... :)

I'd like to see it before the credits start rollin'. Seeing that TWINE actually got me mroe excited for the next one. The Bond theme blasting as "James Bond Will Return" appears on a black screen. Also, who really sticks around to the end of the credits?

They could have "JAMES BOND WON'T RETURN", now that would be a shock. :)

This concept was good in the past when EON sat down, looked at the leftover Fleming titles and most likely threw a dart at the list to pick the next movie title to include in the end credits. Towards the end of this procedure they got it wrong twice. Once they changed the name to ride the SW wagon (FYEO to MR), and second they decided that FROM A View To A Kill didn't sound right so they dropped the "From".

Recently they have not had that luxary of choosing from a ready-made list, and have had to choose carefully a title that is befitting the final script. If it was going to take this long to come up with the Bond 20 title back then, TWINE would have been a year late to release just because they couldn't decide the title of the next Bond movie to add in the end credits.

I'm just as happy that at least there is a "James Bond Will Return". If Bond 20 doesn't have that then I'd be very worried.
