Since P&W are taking Bond back to his roots, they would be the perfect duo to adapt the novel, faithfully I would hope. Or as close as possible, since the end isnt a proper finale(at least in Bond film sense). Maybe I'm dreaming, but I think Casino Royale would be a great film, maybe leave it for Brosnans last, let him go out with a bang.

It would be a good intro to another string of movies featuring the same bad guys.

We have discussed the possiblity of CR being filmed before (in this thread and another that I can't seem to find). And it really comes down to a couple of things:
How much stigma the name Casino Royale holds.
And how faithful can you be to the book.

Vesper Lynd would need to change as well. The Bond-girl-turning-out-to-be-a-traitor twist has been used very effectively in TWINE. Bond teamed up reluctantly with a female MI6 agent is being used, it seems, in Bond20.
Lastly, a grander villain's scheme would need to be found. A bit of embezzling hardly cuts it these days.
Nevertheless, I'm sure that key sequences, characters and locations could be preserved, as well as that very nasty torture scene (unless it's been pinched for Bond20).

Here's a synopsis:
PTS is the 'making' of 007 with his assassination of the SMERSH radio operator in New York (Felix helping him). Although there's no indication that this is when he gets the 00 prefix, just fuel for the main plot. Le Chiffre's 'adept[ness] at driving fast cars' is augmented into his being a money source for SMERSH, a now non-Soviet operated organisation. Le Chiffre always wins at cross country races in France/Germany etc. and MI6 comes up with the idea to get a lead on SMERSH by making him lose a race (thereby causing SMERSH activity to increase).
The next part isn't worked out, but then it turns out Le Chiffre has kept SMERSH at bay and is re-funding himself by gambling at Casino Royale on the Atlantic coast of France. Vesper's Polish boyfriend is still a snag, where does he get captured, any ideas? And SMERSH still operates under a secret conspriatory team of the KGB and...CIA (those bastards have got to be uncovered somehow; Felix talks about his chage to the DEA because of corruption maybe).
The rest follows the book closley, and of course: 'Yes dammit, I said *was*. The bitch is dead now.'
So what do you think? Waste of time, or wonderful update?

1) More locations
2) More charcters
3) The addition of some set piece action sequences
4) A more suitable title for the mass audience
5) An extra hour's worth of story
It's hardly CR when you add all that is it? The closest we may come is snippets of the story used in a new movie, or maybe a characters name.

Sorry Jimmy Bond, but I doubt you will ever see Casino Royale on film without

Except #4, isn't that pretty much what they did with Live And Let Die? ;D
