In "Moonraker" the book, Bond describes Hugo Drax as "...sort of a Lonsdale figure."

In "Moonraker" the movie, the actor playing Hugo Drax was "Michael Lonsdale."

Conincidence, or a casting director's weird sense of humor?

Welcome to CBN.

I recall that being mentioned in an interview with Lonsdale.

Pure coincidence. I always found that to be rather interesting too! As I saw the movie Moonraker before I read the book, when I got to that line, I did a double take and couldn't believe it.

I like trivia like that.

I've always assumed "Lonsdale belt", but I may be wrong.

I had the relevant paragraph stored away for a future sig, but now's a good a time as any to use, I guess. :)

Welcome to CBn, OwenPussy. :)

I disagree with your thoughts on the film, but I hope you thoroughly enjoy, what I feel anyway, to be one of Fleming's best novels ever. It's not a whole lot like the film, but the descriptions in this book are above all.

I encourage you to look around the site, and possibly join the Blades Reading Club if you like, where as of now, you can post comments on Moonraker and Diamonds Are Forever.

I also disagree that it is overrated, because it is one of the most slandered films of the series besides TMWTGG and AVTAK(all Moore's...poor guy). It's not the best, but it's still a fun film. It depends on the viewer, though. And welcome aboard.

It has to be a freak coincidence, though. If they chose the part of Drax based on name, and name alone, there'd be some appearance issues.

Drax was taken directly from a novel. Odd, but definitely a coincidence on the actor name.
