Watching TWINE, I was very glad with the reference to OHMSS. Look for instance to the skiing scene between Elektra and Bond. But I also saw the escaping scene of the Bilbao Bank, and the love scene with Doctor Molly Warmflash. And I must say.......that's THUNDERBALL?! I don't mind it very much, but how will Bond 25 look like? Will there be more from those re-used scenes again

Not the first clue.

Jog my mind, how is the Bilbao Bank escape 'Thunderball'?

I hate to break it to you guys but James Bond began to loose it's originality in 1953. The series (both movie and books) are formulaic and rely somewhat on repetition and then variations on that. Face it, the plots have been repeated; Goldfinger, A View To A Kill, and The World Is Not Enough are all villain plans to use a nuke to degrade the world's supply of commodity thus increase the value of the villain's supply.) But you know what--I don't care. Yes, I would rather see originality, but not at the expense of the Bond genre. And a variation to a theme is, to an extent, original.

16. Bond girl is a cretin

Ok, Jim, I'm convinced. Point 16 is the clincher!

Well, all that knocking on the door! This time, not French screaming, like in Thunderball, but Spanish screaming! And the escape is not the same as in Thunderball, but it is a Thunderball-like escape (Can you still understand me)

.....and there it is folks.

Utterly bloody speechless. Incredible.

Although for reasons of veracity, I was referring to a list of things that are re-used throughout the entire series, as opposed to similarities between Gg and TWINE (I wasn't even aware there were any)

Based on your work for the Gg-TWINE task though, I have to forbid any repeat performance for the series - the server will protest and the children will be wanting their presents.

If you want a list with all the scenes that pop up later in the series, then that sounds like a job for Jim - and we will probably get it before breakfast.

One rises to a challenge

It's breakfast time
There's no need to be afraid
At breakfast time
Jim sets out a list of the similarites between TWINE and TMWTGG

(I may have paraphrased slightly there).

1. Control of world's energy resources at stake.
2. Set mainly in former colonised Asian state
3. Wealthy industrialist employs "the world's greatest..."
4. Villain is infamous hitman who has had a run in with SIS by the time the film starts
5. Explosion in SIS HQ (a little tenuous this one)
6. Girl initially hostile to Bond assists him
7. Girl Bond sleeps with sends signal to SIS
8. Bond needs one shot to dispose of villain
9. Bond taken off assignment
10. Bond questions someone about death of 00 agent
11. Chief of Staff and other SIS top brass appear at bond's briefing
12. Electronic signal from kidnapped female SIS member pinpoints villain's location
13. A villain has ties to communist superpower
14. Villain has personal problems from childhood and explains them to Bond
15. Bond girl taken hostage by villain
16. Bond girl is a cretin
17. Bond liaises for a second time with a fat man from this Bond's first film for alleged comedy effect
18. Said fat man falls into liquid for alleged comedy effect.
19. M has means of being able to contact villain (rather odd, that)
20. Bond threatens to shoot an unarmed man who is only doing his job
21. Villain kills off associates (not terribly original)
22. Film ends with appalling pun based on Bond girl's name
23. Bond visits casino to obtain information
24. SIS have alternative HQ
25. Scottish female singer for theme song
26. Lyrics to theme song by Don Black
27. Bond takes an alias

Admittedly, some of these pop up in more than one, but there's enough similarity between the TWINE and TMWTGG to depress me horribly and wonder where the series is heading.

To oblivion and beyond.

Sorry fellas, but at the end of the day I think the question is redundant. The series has been borrowing, warming up and re-using elements from the series since time immemorial, or at least the mid sixties.

The series is a franchise and franchises by definition are not original. Do you want that Big Mac with tomato sauce or, eh, without? It's exactly as before, with a slight variation.

If you want a list with all the scenes that pop up later in the series, then that sounds like a job for Jim - and we will probably get it before breakfast.

The movies have already started to loose their originality. I don't mind as long as they turn out good, enjoyable Bond movies with at least original stories.

Elaborate please on the Bilbao bank/Thunderball connection. I know that TWINE repeats much of The Man with the Golden Gun but I've never seen this connection

And I've never noticed a TWINE/TMWTGG connection. Do you mean the book or film,Jim?

There's a deeply upsetting pun there somewhere about Bilbao Baggins but I just can't put me finger on it.
