How did you design the Fleming-esque covers?

For those fan-fics like JUST ANOTHER KILL, or FROM A SCREAM TO A SIGH, both of which have great covers, I'd like to know how exactly you designed them. What fonts did you use? What programs did you use for editing and layout? Did you draw the women on the cover yourself, or use a photograph and process it, and how? This would really help me design my own.

You don't expect Mr Asterix (the designer of such lovely cover) to give away all his secrets do you? :)
